Yulong Snow Mountain is the southernmost year-round snow mountain in the Northern Hemisphere and is regarded as a sacred peak by the Naxi people. Three cable car lines serve the Glacier Park (at 4,680 m), the alpine meadow of Maoniuping (3,800 m), and Yunshanping (3,200 m).
On that day, the rain was quite heavy, so we took the cable car to Yunshanping. The view was still beautiful.
After descending, we continued to visit Blue Moon Valley, known as the "sapphire of the snow mountain." Located at the eastern foothills of Yulong Snow Mountain, the valley gets its name because on clear days the lake water would appear brilliant blue and the valley is crescent‑shaped. Its former name was Baishui River, named for its white riverbed. The water comes from the meltwater of the ancient glaciers on Yulong Snow Mountain. Containing copper ions, it will display a captivating blue color under sunlight. Blocked by the mountain terrain, the water forms four main lakes, which from top to bottom are Yuye Lake, Jingtan Lake, Lanyue Lake, and Tingtao Lake. On a clear day the water will be crystal with the see-though bottom, and the reflections of the snowy peaks perfectly mirrored on the surface.
