    The Dead Sea of Canada 加拿大版的死海

    Visited this mineral rich Manitou Lake and the resort with heated pool filled with running natural lake water. It is claimed the water has certain healing effects for skin and joints. We relaxed in the heated pool for a couple of hours.
    “The lake was carved out by glaciers and is fed by springs that release magnesium, potassium, silica, iron oxide, calcium and sulphate, giving it the highest mineral content of any lake on Turtle Island (North America).” (copied from saskmining.ca)

    Fort La Reine Museum 拉雷纳堡博物馆

    This museum is in the town of Portage la Prairie, a little town with some historical buildings open to visitors. It seems very interesting from people 's comments, so we decided to go. However, it's decided to close for a few days before the Labour Day weekend😔🤭 Good that it's an outdoors museum, so we can still see some exhibits outside the gate 😀🤗

    Stay in Dryden overnight 在德莱顿停留一晚

    Dryden is located between Winnipeg and Thunder Bay, with population of approximately seven thousand. In early 191x pulp and paper production had been the main industry and later in 197x a large quantities of mercury contaminated water was released to the nearby river causing serious illness to the local residents.
    Before continuing driving east, we visited the Sandy Beach Park, visitor's centre/gift shop (cloased yesterday when we arrived), Dryden & District Museum, and the Mosaic Sculpture "Pieces of Dryden"（the pieces were collected from the residents of Dryden and the surrounding area... dishes, pottery, mirrors, china, tiles, etc.), also Max the Moose 🫎 and the Eagle 🦅 again, that all made this small town unique and special 💐

    Driving westbound along highway 17 from Ontario into Manitoba, time zone change happens around roadway marker 440 between Dryden and Thunder Bay instead of the border.
    Yesterday we were back to Ontario so we adjusted clocks before entering Kenora. Just that we saw parking meter was still one hour behind, a bit puzzled, we asked a local driver then realized that the time zone change is not by province borderline. So by now all three hours we gained by travelling to the west have been adjusted.

    Th information centre is closed for the weekend on the Labour Day Holiday, but we still learned that the aboriginal people in the Nipigon area might have lived and hunted there as early as 8,000 BC!

    Day hike 单日远足

    We embarked on a day hike along the coastal trail in Pukaskwa National Park. The popular section spans 9km one way, totaling 18km for a round trip. Considering our capabilities, we completed a 5km section, resulting in a 10km round trip plus an additional 4km inside the camp. The trail is categorized as ‘Difficult,’ with a accumulated ascent of 2,280m and descent of 2,272m for our chosen section.

    This park is on our camping list for years but never came. On the way to Sault Ste Marie today, we took a couple of quick stops and got a glimpse of the views of the World's largest fresh water lake. We will come again and explore more.
