    Joint Force at Blind River 布兰德河会合

    We met this couple, Anthony and Crystal, during our expedition cruise to Antarctica in Dec 2022 to Jan 2023 and became friends.
    When chatting about future trip ideas, we discovered a shared interest in driving to Tuktoyaktuk, NWT. We decided to go together as a group of four, with each couple driving our own vehicles 🚙 🛻
    It turns out that Anthony and Crystal are the best trip planners we’ve ever met (with a proven track record)!
    As planned, we met at the Blind River Information Centre. From this point onwards, we joined forces as a two-vehicle team.

    Chippewa Falls 奇佩瓦瀑布

    This plaque is located at the approximate midpoint of the 7,820 km long Trans-Canada Highway which runs from St. John’s Newfoundland to Victoria, British Columbia.
    The lovely, quaint Chippewa Falls are situated on the North side of the highway. According to this plaque, the famous Group of Seven known for painting Canadian landscapes had travelled here for the stunning scenery.

    High Falls Motel & Cabin 高瀑布木屋汽车旅店

    The first day ended here at High Falls Motel and Cabin in Wawa, ON. The cabin was nice and clean, with a kitchenette. Expecting a good rest, we readied ourselves for the next day’s activities.

    Wawa Goose 瓦瓦镇的镇标大鹅

    This goose monument was the idea of local entrepreneur Al Turcott, who came to Wawa in 1939 for work and became so fascinated by the area that he sent for his wife and children to join him and settle there.
    By the 1940s, Al began operating Turcott's Dry Goods and Clothing store and became very involved in the community. So much so, that Al played an essential role in securing the Lake Superior route of the then-proposed route of the Trans Canada Highway through Wawa.
    Concerned because the final plans had the highway bypassing Wawa, Al and other local businessmen created the idea of the Goose Monument to stop tourists on their TransCanada trips. Nowadays, the Wawa Goose is one of the most photographed landmarks in North America.

    Winnie-the-Pooh 小熊維尼

    On August 24, 1914, during WWI, a Canadian soldier named Harry Colebourn bought a black bear cub at White River, ON on his way to an overseas journey and named her Winnie after his hometown Winnipeg. Winnie soon became a soldiers’ mascot and was left in the care of the London Zoo on December 9, 1914, while Harry Colebourn served in France.
    In 1919, he gave her to the Zoo for permanent keeping where she was watched and loved by many, including author A. A. Milne and his son Christopher. A. A. Milne went on to write the famous children’s series featuring beloved character Winnie-the-Pooh.

    Terry Fox Momument 特里·福克斯纪念碑

    Terry Fox was a young Canadian athlete who had one leg amputated due to cancer at the age of 19. His experience made him realize the value and importance of cancer research.
    In April 1980 Terry Fox embarked on an East-to-West cross-Canada run in order to raise money and awareness for cancer research. He began in St. John’s Newfoundland and ran 5,373 km in 143 days (averaging 42 km per day) through rain, wind, and snow, without taking a single day off.
    By September 1980, his cancer returned and spread to his lungs. He was forced to end his marathon in Thunder Bay, ON and attempt treatment. Sadly, Terry Fox passed away in 1981 at the age of only 22 years old. By this time, he had raised over $23 million towards cancer research. Today, he is considered a national Canadian hero.
    The Terry Fox National Historic Monument is located in the outskirts of Thunder Bay in Ontario's Superior County.
