• World Champions

    August 23, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

We arrived home to Melbourne to be told that after an awful mix-up in the compilation of the judging of the finals of the Novice B band competition, the judging panel reviewed the scoresheets.

As a result of this review, Scotch B went from sixth place to FIRST.

    That makes them World Champions!

    Two things:-
*the boys felt they had played very well and whilst a little disappointed with sixth place they accepted the decision. Sixth in the world is a great result.
Sadly, they have missed out on the once in a lifetime opportunity to be presented the award in front of all their peers and family in Glasgow…

It must have been devastating for Lochgelly High School who went from winning to tenth place. Their spokesperson said they wanted to congratulate the winners (Scotch College) despite this disappointment.

It took a few days for this dreadful mess to be clarified and the judging body did not announce the final results until after the Scotch assembly where the boys were told of the good news.

The teachers need all our congratulations on the result - not only for the great coaching but also for the way they organised things: getting the boys to Scotland, looking after them whilst there, and getting them home again. Parents and grandparents were kept fully informed and updated of things whilst there - advices were often sent out late in the evening. Thank you and well done teachers!
