• Travel Day - Stillington to Henley

    September 11 in England ☁️ 18 °C

Driving back down south today so after packing up at Pocket Cottage we headed across to Knaresborough for brunch before the mainly motorway drive south.

We had a slow drive behind a tractor for much of the way and came in through the more industrial side. It was very busy so we parked down where it appeared close to the old castle and walked along the river.

Great view of the viaduct bridge. Had a delicious brunch in the first cafe along the row.

The walk up to the castle from there looked long and it was almost the time we had scheduled to leave so we left without seeing the more attractive side of Knaresborough that I recall from a visit with Jack and Edna in 1990. The houses and gardens were lovely and you could tell it was a lovely town.

After almost four hours driving we arrived at our new BnB at Henley. Looked like an ordinary house in an ordinary street but the owner is all about the inside. Wow. Quite spacious, lots of artwork and tastefully done.

Decided another pub meal would finish off the day well so walked along the Thames to the shopping precinct and found The Bull which looked like a tiny English pub but opened out into a really large venue. Food was fantastic. My salmon dish and summer pudding were among my top meals in the UK.

Took a long walk home after our dessert indulgences and took to our beds as soon as we were in the door.
