    Arnoux’s beaked whale sighting

    February 14 in Antarctica ⋅ ☁️ 30 °F

Saw these in the Lemarie Channel, next to the massive ice berg blocking our passage.
Chris, the marine mammal specialist was super excited about the observation. Thought it was a Minke whale at first, but turns out to be a really special sighting.
Looking up info about the whale, the first sentence in the description of this whale is “The chances of seeing this whale are not great.” lol

TravelerThis is very interesting. I haven’t heard of this type of whale before.
