    Pantheon!

    2023年12月4日, イタリア ⋅ ☁️ 54 °F

Pantheon means “common to all gods”. The building we see today is the 3rd iteration of the Pantheon.
The initial Pantheon was built by Marcus Agrippa between 27 BC - AD 14, which burnt down. The rebuilt temple also burned down. The current temple was built by the emperor Hadrian in AD 126.

A few facts about the Pantheon:
It’s still the world’s largest unreinforced concrete dome.
    The artist Raphael,
Two kings of Italy: Vittorio Emanuele II, Umberto Rainerio Carlo Emanuele Giovanni Maria Ferdinando Eugenio di Savoia

    Aboard Viking Mars

    2023年12月6日, イタリア ⋅ ☁️ 54 °F

It’s been a year since I’ve been on a Viking Ocean cruise, but as one writer phrased it, “it’s like coming home”. Every Ocean ship is laid out the same way and the crew is always beyond friendly.
I also love the decor, simple yet elegant.

    Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

    Day 2 -

    CIVITAVECCHIA (ROME), ITALY
More than 2,500 years of history live in the streets of Rome. For centuries, the city ruled much of Europe, building a vast empire from the power of emperors. Ancient structures recall those heady days when the cheers of 80,000 spectators roared from the Colosseum, citizens mingled in the Forum and senators asked the gods for guidance in the Pantheon. Along with the Vatican and St. Peter's Basilica, this rich pocket of Italy is one of the world's greatest repositories of history and civilization. Today, Rome is a remarkable blend of ancient and modern. Vespa's whiz past ancient treasures; Renaissance fountains overlook streets lined with designer shops. Even today's papacy weighs ancient traditions against a modern world.もっと詳しく

    Naples, Italy

    NAPLES, ITALY
More known for its pizza than its princely past, Naples boasts a long history and stunning seaside setting. The city has long been a major center of Italian culture and was the seat of a powerful independent kingdom for 500 years. So great was its sway, that it lured the region's finest architects and artists. Its former might is on grand display in the official buildings around the Piazza del Plebiscito, the grand and sweeping public square. Here, the San Francesco di Paola Church flaunts a colonnaded facade reminiscent of the Parthenon in Rome, and the Royal Palace overlooks Neapolitans much as it did centuries ago, with statues of all the kings of Naples peering out from alcoves.もっと詳しく

Sea Day - Stromboli & Tyrrherian Sea

    2023年12月9日, Tyrrhenian Sea ⋅ 🌬 59 °F

    Day 4 -
    59 F / 15 C
    Partly Cloudy, windy

SCENIC CRUISING: TYRRHENIAN SEA & STROMBOLI ISLAND
As we cruise the Tyrrhenian Sea, the magnificent island of Stromboli emerges. Its most prominent feature-at first a mere dot floating on the horizon, then a towering mass of land —is Iddu, a 3,000-foot volcano that has been continually erupting for 2,000 years. Stromboli is part of the Aeolian archipelago. These seven islands form a wide arc off Sicily's shores. Of all the Aeolians, Stromboli strikes the most dramatic pose for one immediately apparent reason: its hulking volcano doesn't appear to leave room for much else on these black-sand shores. Yet small communities of Italians live a simple existence in three villages. Many residents believe Iddu's steady release of pressure prevents a major eruption and are happy to share their backyard with Sicily's most distinctive neighbor.もっと詳しく
