First order of business...a delay because of a problem with the air/braking system on our Starlight train - a delay of about 45 minutes. We secured a couple of lattes and relaxed in the rather nice, clean, Union Station waiting area.

We spent most of our journey in the Club Coach surrounded by views!Okumaya devam et

Starlight Coastal Train Ride to Monterey

Our Starlight trip was fun. Our gently rocking train and the beautiful moving scenery featured gently rolling hills, ocean vistas, and open farm land.

We arrived at the San Luis Obispo train station where we caught our coach that had delivered us to Union Station, for the final leg of today's journey ending at the Portola Hotel & Spa in downtown Monterey. This was a very nice hotel, perfectly situated within walking distance of the Old Fisherman's Wharf and downtown.

The hotel restaurant was very nice, as was our hotel room!Okumaya devam et

On Our Way To Carmel-By-The-Sea

Arising early in the morning, we had a good breakfast and boarded the coach to take a trip through Monterey and on to the famous 17-Mile drive, taking us to Carmel.

Along the way, we stopped a few times to enjoy the ocean vistas, otters, seals, and rocks!Okumaya devam et

Roaring Camp, Santa Cruz

The next day, following a restful night, we took the coach to the hills of Santa Cruz, arriving at Roaring Camp, where we enjoyed the awesome big trees, little shop, and old town Western feel.

The highlight of the trip was an open-air train ride through the forest of redwoods. Gorgeous!Okumaya devam et

Monterey Bay Aquarium

After the redwoods, it was back to Monterey, where we visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was very crowded but, as aquariums usually are, mesmerizing!

For dinner, we strolled into downtown and had a wonderful gourmet Mexican dinner and window-shopped the street faire. Not content to return to the hotel, we headed over to the Fisherman's Wharf, where we lookylooed for an hour or so.Okumaya devam et

SLO / Santa Barbara and Home

Today, we left the hotel very early and headed back to Orange County by way of Highway 1. We stopped at Madonna Inn in SLO, spent a couple of hours in Santa Barbara, and then we returned to Fountain Valley and home by 8 pm. It was a long day, but overall, it was a good day.

For the trip, we had a very good professional guide who made sure everything was in order and on time!
