    Montréal, Pre-Cruise

    8. oktober 2025, Canada ⋅ ☁️ 54 °F

Today, after a good night's sleep at the Montréal Marriott Chateau Champlain Hotel (after arriving in Montreal the night before), and after finishing the morning buffet breakfast, we took a short walk to the Hop-On-Hop-Off bus near the Rue Sainte-Cathrine.

10 stops and 2 hours later, we were back where we started from. We took lunch at Dunn's restaurant...poutine city!

Then we hopped on the HOHO bus to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. The Kent Mockman exhibit was the most interesting, depicting the oppression of indigenous people and two-spirit beliefs.

We then stopped at the Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral. Wow, huge basilica.

Still not done, we took dinner at the Stolles Restaurant. Fine dining. 18,000 steps for the day!

    10. oktober 2025, Canada ⋅ ☁️ 39 °F

Our Viking excursion today took us around and throughout the city. One thing I noticed were the enormous plots of beautiful land and buildings purchased by McGill University! We enjoyed the thousands of "changing of the season" trees throughout the city.

We visited Beaver Lake on the way to Notre Dame Cathedral. The nave was of course, remarkedly beautiful and the adjacent chapel was a newer and very unusual construction; all in all...Beautiful!

  • Quebec City

    11. oktober 2025, Canada ⋅ ☀️ 45 °F

Totally beautiful Quebec City consisting of lower and upper towns.

Quaint shops stood out in the lower city, while the massive Fairmont Chateau Frontenac Hotel in the upper city provided an incredible sight as we disembarked from the funicular. We walked the nearby streets and even had the great fortune to have lunch at the Hotel. Awesome!

PS: JP purchased a very nice hat in the hotel.

  • Quebec City, afternoon

    11. oktober 2025, Canada ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F

After finishing lunch at the hoity-toity Hotel, the afternoon highlights included a self tour of the wonderful girls school and French Ursuline nunnery (since 1639!).

We truly enjoyed seeing the 3-story school and museum exhibits. The girls who were fortunate enough to attend this school were very well educated in a variety of subjects including physics and many of the women went on to make highly important contributions to Canada and the World.Læs mere

  • Saguenay, Canada

    12. oktober 2025, Canada ⋅ 🌙 48 °F

For the next day we sailed to Saguenay, a beautiful little town of some 130,000 hardy inhabitants. Winters get some 16 feet of snow and sub zero temperatures. Jeez, We were greeted at the wharf by freezing temperatures and a happy troupe of some 30 dancers and singers

Our excursion took us to a small, but very fun combo museum/aquarium, the Musée du Fjord.

Following the museum, our guide regaled us with stories about the The Saguenay flood, a series of flash floods on July 19 and 20, 1996 that hit the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec. It was the biggest overland flood in 20th-century Canadian history. We visited a house right at the center of the flood. It survived because the owner had a premonition of the catastrophe and literally bolted the house to the rock before the floods. Amazing.

  • Saguenay, afternoon

    12. oktober 2025, Canada ⋅ ☁️ 54 °F

This afternoon, we took an excursion which included a stop at the Touverre Verrerie D'Art Glass Gallery where we sat in at a glassblower workshop. We did manage to avoid purchasing a souvenir.

Next, we visited the Chevrerie Angora Goat farm. These goats produce mohair! JP got a pair of mohair socks. So soft and comfy.

We finished our excursion with a stop at the museum, La Pulperie de Chicoutim - Regional.

In the evening, we attended a wonderful show in the Star Theatre, where we enjoyed Marc Devigne.

  • Prince Edward Island, afternoon

    14. oktober 2025, Canada ⋅ ☁️ 57 °F

After enjoying the Basilica, we returned to the ship only to leave for another really fun outing - an excursion in a tent - where we listened to the Ross Family Ceilidh - so much fun and infectious excitement; all while having a taste of beer and wine.

  • St John / St Andrew, New Brunswick

    17. oktober 2025, Canada ⋅ ☁️ 48 °F

Upon our arrival at St. John, our coach excursion carried us to the Bay of Fundy. After a 45-minute drive we arrived in the quaint little town of St
Andrew, where we boarded a harbor cruiser to whale and wildlife watch.

We saw some flukes of whales, seals and a bald eagle nestled in a nearby tree. It was a bit cold on the boat but the guides did a good job to keep us distracted with stories and live creatures from the sea like clams, mussels and starfish. We sailed by the St. Andrews North Point Lighthouse constructed in 1833 - the oldest remaining mainland lighthouse in New Brunswick.

Finishing our little cruise in the Bay of Fundy, we enjoyed an included lunch at the Drewhaven Cafe & Restaurant. Then, back to the Mars!
