2 Kansas City trips & Illinois

We have 2 trips to Kansas City. The annual Homecoming for Avant retirees and then a meeting with “Alluance for missionary Seniors”. We will also go to “Donuts and grownups” to be with the Rosenbergers kids. Read more

    Tyler to Dallas to ?

    August 28 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 100 °F

    We had a busy morning. We packed the RV last night with a dresser we’re taking up to Lori and Phil. Each drawers are full of stamping supplies we will use at Homecoming. We dropped off the Lincoln at the dealership. Some light came on. And we dropped off the RAV4 at a Mexican auto shop. He’ll have all week to repair the “boo boo” on the right fender.

    We drove towards Sarah and I dropped off a dress that she’s going to bring up the hem for me. Next stop TCBY and Hobby Lobby before our 5:30pm meeting with the new pastor at Northwest Bible Church st the Boyton’s home in Lake Highlands. We drove by 9511, Lisa’s old home and Pat’s old home.

    We had a very encouraging time meeting the proposed new pastor at Northwest Bible Church.

    Then we drove to Half Price bookstore to meet up with Holly to look at the RV. Dwight Hill (our insurance man) gave us the lead.

    While we were in the parking lot, up walks Sarah and Brian Marr! Small world!

    Stop to see Virginia

    August 29 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 97 °F

    We slept great. It was definitely a good decision not to go any farther last night.

    We stopped at Braum’s and got chicken salad for Virginia and me before arriving in Hesston. Virginia had been teaching a barn quilt class, which sounded very interesting. We continued on up to Kansas City, enjoying the drive.

    We arrived around 5:30 and unpacked our personal luggage. Then Jack and Terresa picked us up and took us to Shrouds for dinner. We had to wait about 30 minutes for a table, but that gave us plenty of time to sit and visit.

    We had a good conversation about member care for the retirees—how we can be more effective in staying connected and what we should do when a retiree doesn’t respond to our emails. We also talked about the Joneses’ upcoming cruise to the Mediterranean, which sounds like it will be a wonderful adventure.

    It was a fun evening with good food, lots of conversation, and great fellowship. It was so nice to spend time with Jack and Terresa!    Read more

    Day 1 and 2 of Homecoming

    September 1 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 97 °F

    Fun seeing old friends. Mary had a great time reconnecting with missionaries that she and Ken knew back under Practical missionary Training (PMT) back in the 70’s.

    Glenn, Linda and I went walking at 6:30am. Breakfast followed by teaching.

    I took a 1.5 hour nap in the morning.

    I attended a seminar on grief led my Kelly then I played several games with Linda, Dionne and Mary. We also showed our RV to Dionne.

    I set up a craft table for anyone to make some cards. It’s a great time to visit, chat and make a card.    Read more

    Day 3 and 4

    September 3 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 93 °F

    I set up a craft table for folks to come in and make home made cards with my rubber stamps. It brought lots of folks to sit and chat and make cards.

    We took a PMT (Practical Missionary Training) reunion photo.

    We had a member care time. Showed the video that Terresa Jones put together. Fun day of meeting with the concluding banquet.    Read more

    Go Home Day

    September 5 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 97 °F

    We left the Avant Center around 7:30am ish and drove to Wichita, KS. One stop to fill up on our way. We stopped at the AirBnB that Virginia was staying with her sister, Evie, and her 2 nieces (Nancy and Mary).

    I had forgotten my Stanley cup last week, so we stopped by for a quick 20 minute break before continuing on to Texas.

    I got in the back and slept a little while we drove south through Kansas and Oklahoma. We stopped at Ted’s Mexican Restaurant for a late lunch, early supper. I got a Taco Salad and Glenn had the usual Cheese Enchiladas.

    We continued on to Dallas and then on to Tyler. We picked up the RAV4 that was getting the back left rear fixed. Pulled into 5805 Eagles Nest at 9:30pm.

    Long day. Home until we leave on Thursday again.    Read more

    Heading to see grandkids

    September 10 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 73 °F

    Woke up at 2am. Read that correct. 2:00am. We took a uber to the airport by picking up a passenger in Bullard. Flight left at 5:10am.

    I flew first class from Tyler to DFW We walked from terminal B to terminal D. A short layover but we sat on the tarmac for a while. We arrived into Chicago O’Hare just on time, however a Japan airline plane made the wrong turn and created a bottleneck. We literally WALKED FAST between the terminals.

    We both got upgraded to first class. Ellen picked us up in Bloomington and it was raining. Both Lizzy and Amanda stayed home from school because of fever. Ellen and Luke went out on a date. I made Mexican casserole and played with Lizzy and Amanda. Amanda did take a good long nap. Lizzy painted my toenails. Annie was reading to me. Emily drew a picture of Grammie.

    Tired. Ready for bed. Tomorrow is “Donuts and grown up” with Annie, Lizzy and Lucy    Read more

    Flying CMI DFW MCI

    September 12 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 68 °F

    Ellen got up early with us to drive us to CMI. Lizzy joined too. I gave Lizzy 5.00 bill to go spend something for bfast. She smiled.

    Miss Patti was working the ticket counter, so I got some pictures.. fun fun! We met Miss Patti years ago when we took David and Lizzy down to Guatemala with using layover in DFW. Sapphire lounge. Yeah

    Then ran into the Quiroz that were on our flight to KC. The hollbrooks picked us up at the airport and we ate dinner with them    Read more
