We are going to places I’ve always wanted to go. Poland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland. We are flying into Copenhagen and taking the train to Sweden. The cruise doesn’t start til Wednesday. Read more

    Sea Days

    October 11, North Sea 🌧 57 °F

    It was great to have 2 sea days. We played Rummycube both days. Took a good 2 hour nap.

    On Sunday we had church. Paul preached about the 3 on the cross. I’m happy that NCL put the church service in the Free Style Daily.

    After the 8 am service we went down to the main dining room and had bfast with Paul, Beth and Kennlyn. Then we played Rummycube for 2 hours up in the quiet nook on the ship, in the Los Lobos Restaurant. It’s empty during the day and most people don’t even know that.

    I decided I was going to take a good nap and skip lunch. Glenn went up to the garden cafe.

    We joined P, B and K for dinner. And attended the 7pm show. “The Wild Cards”. And of course, my favorite “we are Norwegian Family” where they honor the workers, staff, cooks, and others.

    We got our new key card for our continuing cruise “Trans-Atlantic and Caribbean Cruise”

    My right thigh has been hurting ever since last Saturday when I went bike riding in Estonia on a flat tire and my seat wasn’t adjusted correctly. Glenn has really had to walk slow and I need to hold onto his hand. The pain comes and goes. I’ve been taking extra pain medication -hopefully it should get better.    Read more

    Germany 3.0 Rostock

    October 9 in Germany ☁️ 52 °F

    Because it was too windy to depart last night heading to Copenhagen, we stayed docked here in Germany.

    We did take the free “behind the scene” tour this morning which took us to the galley, laundry and the theatre rooms.

    We met up with Paul and Beth and granddaughter KenLyn and purchased a train ticket to Rostock, a 30 minute train ride.

    We walked 1/2 hour to the old town. Of course we got a strudel on the way.

    We took a walking tour of the city. Arrived at St Mary’s church at 12noon to see the huge clock strike and hear the 3,000 pipe organ! Beautiful.

    We also walked to another church and and took the elevator to the top to see the city.

    Then back to a German restaurant to eat weinersteizel.

    After riding the train back to the port, Glenn, me and Kennlyn rode the Farris wheel. That was on my bucket list. Check it off!

    Germany 2.0

    October 8 in Germany 🌧 55 °F

    We worked a puzzle up on deck 11. Fun. The 300!piece puzzle took us 1 hour and 15 minutes.

    It was raining all through the day.

    After pizza for lunch we played Rummy-cube, Skip-Bo, and Knock . By 1pm we were back in the room for a good afternoon nap. Perfect weather for a nap.

    Then we decided to get off the ship. All a board time is 9pm as folks were traveling to Berlin (2 hours away). Once we stepped off the ship, I knew we were not going to be on the ground long. The wind was very fierce although it wasn’t raining. Cold! We saw some sand art by the pier.

    Poland 2.0 visit missionaries

    October 7 in Poland ☀️ 57 °F

    Slept very well again. Plus we gained another hour!

    We met with Felip and Ola Nerc at the boat dock. I gave them the description to look for a guy that had a Santa Claus white beard wearing a Dallas Cowboys baseball cap. The Nerc live about 1/2 hour away. We drove about 15 minutes away to have a morning walk along the board walk. I also purchased some souvenirs from Poland (pen, magnet and postcard). We then drove to the center of town for a late morning breakfast.

    We had an apple omelet and cappuccino. Very delicious. We talked about family, Poland history, missionary life and travels.

    Today is Ola’s 52nd birthday. Snd their oldest daughter is pregnant and due any day.

    Our time with Felip and Ola went by quickly. It was definitely fun to hear their story, their challenges, how they met, and their ministry here in Poland.

    Tonight we have dinner with the officers and we plan to play games this afternoon with Paul, Beth and their granddaughter.

    Latvia 2.0 Turaida & Siguida

    October 5 in Latvia 🌧 54 °F

    1.0 million people. About the same size of Estonia. We were on a small private tour in a Mercedes van.

    We stopped at Turaida palace. Then we stopped by Gutmann cave where there are itched in the wall of the caves centuries of family coat of armors.

    We drove into a national park and walked thru an old castle ruins.

    Then back to Riga, the capital city of Latvia. Cobbled stone streets. Freedom monument.    Read more

    Sweden 2.0 Stockholm

    October 4 in Sweden ☁️ 54 °F

    We had an early morning service at 7am. About 8 folks showed up. Paul preached from Hebrews.

    Then a shuttle bus service to Stockholm. Then walked to the Hop On Hop Off bus.

    The buildings were ornate. Clean city. We stopped at Coop and bought Potatoe chips, pretzel shaped cinnamon buns, coke and sat on a bench and watched the world walk by. We walked through the old town (narrow streets). Coffee shops and fika (bread).

    Success. Stockholm is beautiful. Lots of little islands

    11,082 steps 3.1 miles, a hop on hop off bus and lots of people to watch. 800,000 people, 24 islands in Stockholm. 3 million people in all of Sweden    Read more

    Estonia 2.0 bike ride

    October 3 in Estonia ⛅ 50 °F

    Slept in til 6:30. Took a 4 hour bike tour! Cool. Stopped several times. Estonia is small country. Had invaders from the east. Our bicycle guide is a history major. He spoke good English.

    My bicycle didn’t have first gear, plus the bike tire was very low. All on all, it was a good tour. It was cloudy, foggy and dreary most of the morning. It was definitely unique riding a bike but good!

    We stopped at a German pub for cinnamon rolls and hot coffee.

    We rode 10 miles with numerous history stops.

    Estonia

    October 1 in Estonia ☀️ 59 °F

    We took the Hop on Hop off bus around the city. Beautiful nice. Blue sky and just a tad chilly. We stopped at McDonald’s to use the potty.

    Walled city. 1 million people in the whole country. 400,000 in Tallin. Estonia got its independence in March 1991 from Soviet Union/Russia.

    We walked through the old city. Cobbled stone streets. Did I say it was a beautiful day. Tonight we go to Cagney’s steak restaurant. OMG Cheesecake for sure.    Read more

    Sweden

    September 30 in Sweden ☁️ 57 °F

    Around 6am there was code Red over all staterooms intercom. But we fell back to sleep til we docked on Nynäshamn, the port town for Stockholm. We had bfast then leisurely walked to the shopping mall. There’s a dollar store that kinda reminded me of MarcoPollo in Japan. We bought chocolate to hand to the crew members a blue tooth speaker for me. Only $15.00 And there’s a Baltic store called Normal that we wondered through. We found Dr Pepper.

    Back to the ship for lunch. Yesterday we had dinner with the officer. Gabriel was manager of purchases. Think toilet paper, furnitures, etc. anything in the cabins or on the ship.

    Relaxing day. Lunch out by the pool and a few games of “knock” and Kings corner. And we jumped into the jacuzzi for 1/2 hour. (No picture)    Read more

    Lativa

    September 29 in Latvia ☁️ 55 °F

    We just wondered through the town, stopping wherever we wanted to. The main church was under renovation. We walked into a mall and discovered the grocery store, pharmacy for Tylenol, store for black socks (Glenn forgot his black socks) and the WC.

    Good day. We will be back here next week. Dinner with officers later tonight.

    Lithuania

    September 28 in Lithuania ☀️ 63 °F

    We boarded a 11:50 excursion for Mansion, Church and Monastery in Klaipeda, Lithuania.

    Lithuania is very small. Size of West Virginia and 2 million people.

    We toured a Lithuania church (St Mary Annunciation Church) and learned the history. A nun spoke to us in Lithuanian with had our tour guide into English.

    We toured a local museum and learned about Lithuanian culture and traditions.

    Poland

    September 27 in Poland ☀️ 64 °F

    We held a worship service. Several couples attended. I only was able to advertise via the Facebook grouping for this cruise.

    We played 1 game of Rummycube, ate lunch and took a quick afternoon nap before our 1:30 NCL excursion to from to a WWII Concentration Camp Stutthof.

    It was a very sad experience. How the Jews were exposed, whipped and finally killed.

    We saw the incinerators, a huge pile of shoes, the bunks that the Jewish folks lived in, the latrines, sacks of bones, the train track the hundreds of folks would ride on to this concentration camp and we heard horror stories of how these folks were treated. So so sad!

    We took an NCL Excursion to Schwerin and its Fairy Tale Castle. It’s 1.5 hour bus ride through the countryside to reach the Nesco city.

    The tour guide was very creative and enthusiastic.

    The area we visited was Mecklenburg. And the Queen was charlotte.

    The castle was very impressive and clean.

    I loved going through the castle. Very magical.

    Copenhagen, Denmark

    September 23 in Denmark ☀️ 64 °F

    We had a leisure breakfast and finished packing. Took an uber over the famous Øresund Bridge into Denmark. We arrived at 12noon, quick check in and then lunch in main dining room.

    We ran into Manuel who worked in the NCL Spirit on one of our trips. He remembered us right away.

    The Welcome Show was at 8pm. Dinner before in the MDR. We unpacked and Glenn hung up the lights. The room is bigger. Nice inside room.

    Bed by 10:30.

    Thursday morning we had breakfast then HOP ON HOP OFF bus to take us to the Rosenborg castle. We had a tour. Saw the Crown Jewels. Learned a little history. Then back on the bus. Saw the canal. Ate a danish (of course we are in Denmark) 🇩🇰    Read more

    Leisure Day in Malmo

    September 22 in Sweden 🌬 63 °F

    We slept in. Still recovering from jet lag. After bfast I took a nap while Glenn went to the hotel gym.

    We ventured out and walked several blocks to the grocery store and purchased some snacks, then back to the nearby park and sat at a picnic table to eat the chips.

    Besides eating Swedish meatballs at IKEA we also tried Swedish fish.

    Then we walked to a local mall and discovered new places. There’s lots of bicycles and people strolling their infants. We noticed hopscotch at the park, in the grocery store and even IKEA. So I googled it.

    IKEA

    September 21 in Sweden 🌬 57 °F

    We slept pretty good. I slept from 4:30pm til 10:30pm. Then I was wide awake. Around 1:30am I woke Glenn up so he could watch the final quarter of the Dallas Cowboy game. We won. I fell back to sleep until 7:30am. Shower and very fancy buffet breakfast.

    Glenn has NEVER set foot in that “put together furniture store”. Uber to IKEA. IKEA started in Sweden. We started on the bottom floor and made a game of it.

    Were the products from Sweden or China?

    NEW COUNTRIES UNLOCKED:
    29 countries such as China of course, but Thailand, India, Poland, Vietnam and others. This activity made it fun to be in such a large store. Glenn had his step counter on and we did 1.1 mile on the bottom floor which was small stiff to purchase. I bought several plastic storage bins to use for only 1.00!

    We took a break and ate lunch at the IKEA restaurant. We shared a plate of the Swedish meatball plate with mashed potatoes and green peas. Pretty good.

    After our lunch, we headed to the showroom floor. Overwhelmed, but I think having Glenn trying to find all the countries that have products here kinda took the “edge” or “shock” off.

    We grabbed a cinnamon roll, coke and soft serve ice cream in the market area.

    London to Denmark to Sweden

    September 20 in England ☁️ 61 °F

    We arrived on time into London. Then we navigated through the hallways of Heathrow Airport. We even had time to slip in 15 minutes in the British Airways Lounge.

    I spotted the Øresund bridge that’s famous for its construction where 1/2 of the bridge is normal then the road disappears into a tunnel. This bridge connects Sweden and Denmark.

    Once we got to Copenhagen, we followed signs to purchase a ticket to Malmo, Sweden. As we were waiting for the train, we struck up a conversation with a single guy that was traveling back to Sweden to see his missionary parents. We had great conversation.

    We arrived at Malmo central station just before noon and decided to walk the mile to the Quality Hotel.

    However, just outside the central train station I struggled with cobble stone pavement and dragging the luggage then I fell backwards hitting my head on the stone pavement.

    Ouch! I went back into the train station and got some ice from one of the vendors and clarification of our hotel direction.

    It took us a good hour to walk the mile to the hotel. We stopped many times. I even walked into a church.. Took some pictures.

    Made it to the hotel. Found a Magnum ice-cream bar to reward us for conquering the luggage and stone pavement roads. Tried to stay awake, but fell asleep at 4pm    Read more

    TYR - DFW - LHR - CPH

    September 19 in the United States ☀️ 82 °F

    Couldn’t sleep last night. Everything is packed. Excited.

    Deborah Ray picked us up at 8:15 to take us to the airport. We have a long layover at DFW, leaving at 3pm. And a short layover in London.

    We spent 2 hours in the Club. Nice to relax before the long flight.
