GrammieCamp OKay

Ellen needed a break. Dad flew up to Champaign Illinois & took the train back down to Longview Texas with Elizabeth, 5 & Annie, 2.
We called in GrammieCamp Okay, because we would ask Annie, "Are you going to obey?" and her sweet reply was "Okay!"

    Leaving Bloomington

    May 9, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

Granddad left Bloomington Illinois with Elizabeth and Annie on the Amtrak train headed towards Texas.

When they boarded with their carry-Ons and with 2 car seats Glenn could not get 3 seats together until a lady moved.

The ride was from 4pm til 8:30 the next morning,

  • Welcome Wagon

    May 12, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

Elizabeth helped me make some cards and I baked some cookies, then we walked around the neighborhood and met some new folks that have moved in recently.

Annie just walks on into their house. She has no fear.

One new family has 2 little kids and the littlest child has some major disabilities. Jackson, the 4 year old was showing the girls his new turtle his dad brought home for him.

The family across the street has 4 homeschooled kids. And Elizabeth and Annie were playing with them today.

I’m hoping to make new friends as folks move into the development.

So, as Phil has coined it that we are “Welcome Wagon”, but from the on-set, I’ve always wanted to be on the “welcoming committee”.

  • Legacy Trail

    May 12, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

Glenn found this walking trail not too far from Brookshire Fresh store. Just a short stroll to the coffee shop that Aldo has a little “grocery store” for the girls to play in.

We had a picnic breakfast there after my zoom call. Perfect morning. It was hot yet. Girls love playing.

We had a conversation with a lady visiting her elderly mother.

Then we discovered the shaded playground at Brookshire.

    Lunch was hotdogs and watermelon.

Annie took a nap from 2:30-6:59pm. Guess she was tired.

  • Curlers and friends

    May 14, 2022 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 73 °F

I’ve been rolling the girl’s hair each night, just like I did for Ellen and Karen 35 years ago.

Normally Glenn helps me out by holding his iPhone playing a video so Annie is holding her head in the right direction.

And I had a “Grammie weak moment” as I bought these Buc-Eeyes toddler yard chairs. The girls have enjoyed playing with old toys that used to be Ellen and Karen’s.

Aunt Sarah came by to pick up Elizabeth and Libby for the night.

We went out for dinner with Phil and Bobbie at Clear Springs restaurant. Good fish.

Then they came over for dessert snd I showed them our set up here.

    We stopped to see Margaret.

Margaret and Josh came to Guatemala in 2010 and stayed with us for several weeks. They were traveling around the world. Back packing and doing ministry. We went to Semuc Champey. Since then, they have settled in Marshall Texas and she homeschools her 3 boys.Read more

  • A day with Amanda

    May 18, 2022 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 64 °F

I spent the whole day with Amanda. Ellen ran some errands with Elizabeth and then to the library while Emily and Annie stayed home with me, GrandDad and Amanda.

And I just rocked her, fed her a bottle and we both fell asleep for an hour or so.Read more

  • Bike ride

    May 23, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 66 °F

We returned home Thursday night. We really didn’t stop anywhere along the way.

We listed to some podcasts and then I decided it was time to change our mailing address to our new Tyler address for our major accounts such as Mastercard, Visa, and airline accounts, hotel and all the many accounts.

So as Glenn was driving down the road, I was on the phone calling these accounts. Sure made the ride go fast.

Today, Glenn and I went bike riding. It was a fun ride and we rode all the way home. 8 miles. And it was overcast! Perfect weather. Glenn had to go back and get the RAV4.

So we had a great time with Annie and Elizabeth. They were very well behaved and went with the flow!

We called it Grammie Camp Okay because I would repeatedly ask Annie if she was going to obey Grammie and GrandDad, she would sprit out “Okay!”

    May 27, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 86 °F

Kasper’s drove up from the valley to get the things Glenn brought up from Guatemala.

We had a dinner time with the Sages also.

The following day, the Kasper’s and us took a a picnic lunch to the Rose Garden. The weather was perfect.

On Tuesday, we drove mom and dad to 3Score and More. And we got to connect with Eric and Susan.

Glenn picked up mom and dad and drove them to our Tyler house.

I fixed cornbread, beans, new potatoes, onions, carrots, fresh tomatoes and watermelon. We just relaxed and enjoyed our new house.

Glenn took them back home at 3:30.

    Nice to have them here.
