    February 21, 2024 in Guatemala ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

We had a surprise upgrade as Glenn and I flew First class down to Guatemala. Since it was an international flight, we had privileges for the AA Admiral’s club. Terminal E was very quiet.

While in the Club, I worked on some details of our future travel arrangements.

Our flight to Guatemala City was very quick. 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Once we landed, we checked thru immigration and customs. On our flight was Jill Gill who worked with Fred and would clean mom and dads teeth. So she knows Rick and Bev also. We also purchased a SIM card so we could connect to the WiFi.

Steve Sywulka picked us up. We spent a good hour out on their patio talking about life and challenges.

Then we walked next door and visited with Bob and Ann.

Finally we made our way to Antigua. It was painfully slow as we crawled up the hill. However this gave us a chance to connect and read text messages.

I found a hotel to stay in. Only 2 rooms left. We called and the manager said to pay via the app on the website. Kinda hard to do that while driving.

We arrived at El Carman Hotel. Nice room. Glenn parked in a secure parking lot. We are tired. Got up at 3:45am flew business class, visited missionaries and fought rush hour traffic. And now for a good nights sleep.

    February 22, 2024 in Guatemala ⋅ ☀️ 81 °F

On Thursday we slept in and enjoyed a relaxing morning. We had breakfast up on the terrace overlooking the city with the backdrop of the active volcano in the background.

We were unsure of where we would stay on Thursday night. We checked to see if there was a possibility to stay another night in Antigua, however the hotel was full, so we decided to walk to the city plaza and enjoy some decompression time before heading out. There were several things we needed to purchase at the market.

While at the market, Glenn met up with one of the venders whom we have befriended many years ago. Glenn gave him a handful of tracts and he was so grateful. We also learned that he had recently become a pastor of a local church in the area. Our hearts were blessed.

After just 1/2 hour of fast shopping, Glenn and I picked up to Paul and Ruth Philippi who have lived and served in Guatemala for 68 years. We spent a good 2 hours over lunch catching up with their lives, family situations, ministry and their health. We had lunch at a local coffee plantation. Delicious food. Finca Columbia.

Glenn and I then drove to Panajachel and stayed at Don Rodrigo hotel, which is just down the street from Porta de Lago hotel where we’ll be for the next 2 nights.

When paying for the hotel, Glenn couldn’t find his credit card. He had just used it at the gasoline station and recalls that he didn’t give his card to the guy, but instead swiped it into the machine. Frantically, we searched. After getting to our room and before calling the credit card company to cancel our card, Glenn searched one more time and found the credit card wedged between the drivers seat and the console. Thank God!

We had an uneventful full evening, just relaxing. Glenn was talking to the credit card company about another issue and that is unresolved and we’re looking at other options.

We had a good night of relaxing and enjoying the beautiful and serene climate here at the “most beautiful lake in the world”

    February 23, 2024 in Guatemala ⋅ ☀️ 61 °F

Today was very relaxing. We slept in, breakfast, then zoom call with my Bolivian friends.

Glenn and I did some computer work, watched some YouTube videos and took a nap until the hammock.

We were assigned the 3rd floor at the hotel for Intermissions. Nice view of the lake and volcanoes.

After the evening session, we played Chronology game with Natalie and Ken and Cindy Spaugh. We had lots of laughs!

    Good day. Expecting great things.
