  • Honoring Joe Hopkins

    August 14 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 88 °F

We met up with Deb and Jim Cartwright at the hotel. Then we drove together to the camp site that held the dinner honoring Joe Hopkins and Ed Robinson. Ed’s father, Joe was the founder of Moody Aviation back in 1966. This is Moody Aviation 80th year.

We came for the evening because of Joe Hopkins impact on Glenn’s life. While Glenn was a HS student at Ben Lippen boarding school in Asheville, NC and Joe challenged him to pursue aviation. We later connected with Joe when he would come to Santa Cruz, Bolivia and host safety seminars under Mission Safety International,

We sat with Becky and Neil DeBois. Becky is Willard and Minnie Binder (Table Rock, Nebraska), friends of Don and Shirley Stewart. She even mentioned that she was at our wedding in 1980.

Glenn was at Moody Aviation with Jim learning aircraft maintenance together. Cecil Bedford and a few others were in Glenn class that showed up for this recipient “Distinguish Moody Alumni Service
    Award”.

  • Visit Linda and Kendall’s

    August 15 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 93 °F

We have a lovely drive thru the mountains in eastern Tennessee and on into North Carolina.

Linda is a retired CAM missionary having served many years in Spain. The Kendalls we knew in Guatemala. They had a lovely house in Antigua that we would like to show our friends their view of the volcanoes.

Linda met us in Lillington at a cafe that I found on line. We had a visit over Reuben sandwich and pimento cheese dinners. We made a copy of the 1966 CAM Bulletin at the local CVS. Then we attacked 2 letterboxes with no success. 2 years ago in our visit with Linda we were successful in finding a letterbox.

Then to a 30 minute drive to Carol and Forrest Kendall at Carolina Trace. We took a much needed nap and then visited over dinner.

  • Visit with Ron Shea and Karen Woods

    August 16 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 93 °F

We drove 2.5 hours to the charlotte airport. Dropped off the Avis car and was picked up by Ron Shea.

We met up with Karen Woods at the Panera Bread near the airport. Wow what a wonderful conversation recounting our first meeting while I was working for Billy Graham Evangelistic Association for the 2022 Metroplex Mission. God is so good!

We were good friends with Kathy Shea. I kept up with her over the years. Glenn and I visited the sheas in OKC, KC and NYC. I even flew up to Calgary one weekend as Kathy showed me the Canadian Rockies and Banff. Sadly though, Kathy passed away 2 years ago. I miss her and so does Ron.

We talked about everybody that worked in the office. I served as secretary-answering the phone, helping with the counseling. During the crusade part, Glenn was personal chauffeur for the music groups such as Billy Graham. The last night was my birthday, October 20, 2022 and there were 85,000+ people at my “birthday party”.

What a good time. And my happy place back on the AA flight to DFW and then TYR.
