  • Bus to Houston

    6. mars, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 52 °F

We arrived at JF to pick up granddaddy. Yes, we arrived early and headed on to the Double Tree Hotel where our Vonlane bus left at 10:30am

It was a very smooth ride. I had spinach salad and dad had turkey cheese sandwich.

All the while, Glenn was following directly behind the bus. Occasionally, Glenn would pass t he e bus.

We arrived at exactly 2:30 into the hotel downtown Houston and then Glenn was parked directly behind the bus and picked up dad’s walker and we were on our way to Sherrie’s house.

Steve cooked hamburgers for us for dinner. Glenn and I stayed at the near-by Sleep Inn.

Forgot to take picture of the bus and also dinner at Sherrie and Steve’s.

Tomorrow-taking dad on a Caribbean cruise. Spring break! Sherrie and Steve plus Karen

  • Sea Day

    7. mars, Forente stater ⋅ ☁️ 77 °F

We left Sherrie’s house at 9:30amish and headed towards Galveston.

And wouldn’t you know it, my iPhone stopped working. None of the icons would respond to my touch. I even tried to turn my phone off. I tried to reboot. Even called Apple support. No luck. What an unfortunate time for my phone to “crash”. So I don’t have very many fotos of the first day.

I got up early to watch the sunrise and read. We ate at different times. We did sit all in the observation lounge and played “chronology”.

We call an “Uber” and guest services brings an employee to personally escort granddaddy from point A to point B. Great! I love it! You have to think in advance to determine when you will need the “Uber” and you need a little patience in waiting for the people to arrive. In very very short distances, granddaddy will use his walker with me.

We have made some fun NCL connections The current cruise director is Alvin, (cruise director NCL Spirit 2020) and Marguerite NCL SKY 2024/25. And an employee with Shore excursions NCL SKY 2025 is now employed on the Prima.

First sea day was busy with navigating around a new ship. Glenn and I only attended the Latitude reception at 1pm. 1 ambassador, 7 diamonds, just a few hundreds of the rest of the people.

GrandDaddy got invited to a Captains VIP reception at 6pm. We ordered an Uber. Got to the observation lounge early and we able to get dad in a good seating position. This is where we met the captain and the cruise director.

Dad’s light supper was from the Captains reception. Glenn and I ran into Sherrie, Steve and Karen at Indulge for dinner. We played some card games before we walked to the theatre for “The Price is Right”! This was very creative and fun to watch. We were participants in the audience. No pictures allowed.

Afterwards Sherrie and I worked on the correct shore excursions they were going to take on Sunday.

  • Costa Maya, Mexico

    9. mars, Mexico ⋅ 🌬 84 °F

We slept in this morning. Karen, dad and I went to the local cafeteria line food and brought it over to Republic Food empty restaurant. Glenn got granddaddy his food. Since this restaurant is just steps away from dad’s room, we used dad’s walker to get there.

Glenn and I then went to Hudson for a nice dining experience. Glenn had the Shaskura dish and I had the pretzel breakfast. While we were eating, Sherrie Steve and Karen had granddaddy walk with his walker to the observation deck. Granddaddy met a family from Mt Pleasant.

We didn’t dock until 1pm. Sherrie, Steve and Karen had a Mayan excursion. They were gone most of the afternoon. From what I hear, it was an educational tour. They saw monkeys. We took the afternoon easy. I got on my phone and it started working again. I started writing thank you notes.

I quickly made reservations for Cagney’s. We enjoyed Cobb salad, French onion soup and steak. We had some great conversations with the workers! Granddaddy loved the 5 star treatment. Delicious meal.

Now to Wheel of Fortune game!

  • Harvest Caye, Belize

    10. mars, Belize ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

Today we met at the Food Republic place for breakfast. Karen slept in and didn’t get up til later. After bfast, Glenn and I played the new card game that Sherrie taught us. Trash or Hash. I won. Sherrie, Steve and granddaddy played dominoes. There were multiple conversations with people walking by.

Sherrie and Steve walked off to the private beach. Then we called an uber to take us to “Indulge” experience but it didn’t open til 1pm, so we went to the Local. Granddaddy had 1/2 of a hamburger and I had hot dog. Met more people from Texas.

Around 1:30 we called an uber to take us to the dock. We switched over to the golf carts to take us to the entrance of the island. We stayed on and made it a round trip while Karen got off to join Sherrie and Steve.

Before boarding the ship, we rested under the tent and “people watched”. Fun. Met many folks from Texas.

We rested the rest of the afternoon. Glenn had a zoom call with folks from Guatemala. And we watched the sail away.

For dinner, Glenn and I had a special invitation to dine with the captain of the ship. Roger Gustavo. Only 2 others joined us beside the officer of customer service, Raewyn Steenkamp.

Our conversation was delightful. He had many connections from our 2020 Covid Spirit cruise. He knew the captain and even took over the Spirit May 2020-August 2020.

We were personally invited by the Captain to visit him on the Bridge on the last sea day in the afternoon.

  • Roatan Honduras

    11. mars, Honduras ⋅ ☁️ 79 °F

We ended up getting breakfast and ate at Republic Food. Glenn had gone to see if granddaddy was ready and he wasn’t quite done with his shower. The AC wasn’t working to the best, so Glenn called the technicians and they fixed it.

We were reminded to make sure the sliding glass door is closed to the fullest. Sometimes it’s left a jar which hears the room up also.

We played a game of Chronology. I didn’t win. The weather was very humid and raining most of the late morning.

Karen, Steve and Sherrie walked off and along the road. I was able to spot them walking and took a selfie!

For lunch, we took dad to The Indulge. He had tomato soup and bread. I had fried okra.

We watched “the runners” that were late to the ship.

For dinner, we had a nice dinner at Hudson’s. Nice table, nice food.

Karen and I got up for the morning sunrise. We walked up to deck 17 and sat in the Observation lounge. Sherrie and Steve joined us later.

We went to Hudson’s for breakfast. Breakfast Pretzel roll and Glenn had the poached egg skillet.

We then returned to our stateroom.
Sherrie and Steve spent the day Ashore. Karen and I talked out on the balcony. And we played Kings corner game. I also called and talked to Ellen plus Annie and Amanda. Side note: little Annie asks “where’s grandDad?”

I took an afternoon nap after working on some more thank you notes. Karen, Glenn and dad and I went to dinner at Hudson. We watched last minute folks board the Prima. Sail-away was at 5:30.

Nice dinner. Our waiter was Jay. He was helpful, friendly and entertaining.

Glenn and I went to Syd Norman’s then to bed. Fun filled day. Met new friends. Most people are from Houston or Texas.

Met an 8 month old. So the oldest passenger with the youngest passenger.

  • Cruise # 1 finished

    15. mars, Caribbean Sea ⋅ 🌬 82 °F

Today was a SEA Day as we head back to Costa Maya Mexico and granddaddy takes the bus back to Dallas. Karen drove back to Corpus Christi yesterday and Steve and Sherrie arrived in their Houston home.

Glenn and I turned around and are doing the same trip again yet in a more normal cruise style for us.

We have April to assist us. Today was Latitude reception and then VIP cocktails to meet the captain (again). We had a nice dinner reservations at Los Lobos (Mexican food) and then the game show “the price is Right”. We finally finished “rear Mirror” movie.

As I reflect on this cruise, I’m thankful for the opportunity to spend time with family and doing what we like to do. Cruise.

It was extraordinarily unique as we had dinner with the captain, had a private tour of the Bridge, met some old friends that use to work on the NCL Sky and the cruise director Alvin who was our cruise director in 2020 on the NCL SPIRIT.

I had the best roommate (Karen) and granddaddy’s room was ideal for him and Glenn - close to the elevator and key restaurants. The weather was perfect. Warm and sunny. Only 1 rough sea day..
