• Foncebadon

    25 septembre 2024, Espagne ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

A brisk walk out of Astorga this morning as we had over 26 km to do. 537 km done now of 777! Tomorrow we reach the highest point of the whole route - the Cruz de Ferro at 1,505m. It’s the place pilgrims often bring a stone from home and leave it at the cross. A way to lay down before God burdens, fears, sorrows etc. Tonight we are staying in Foncebadon and battles through swarms of flies to do most of our ascent!
Managed to reconnect with Milena (not seen since Navarrete) and Naomi(not seen since the Pilgrim Office in SJPP!)

  • Cruz de Ferro and Molinaseca

    26 septembre 2024, Espagne ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Lashing rain and gales on top of the mountain last night that continued through this morning. Seemed appropriate weather for visiting the Cruz de Ferro and leaving my piece of Hertfordshire stone behind. Long descent to Molinaseca, but rewarded with a very pleasant albergue, a dog with a Welsh name and lovely company.En savoir plus

  • Villafranca del Bierzo

    27 septembre 2024, Espagne ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Changeable weather and a long walk (added extra walking through vineyards) today. Breakfast in Ponteferrada. Met up with Milena again in the cafe. It’s been a day of reunions! Had supper with Naomi. Hee, Reynaud, Bianca, Raphael all at the same albergue - Leo. Lovely to keep reconnecting! Villafranca is beautiful - reminds me of Llangollen!En savoir plus

  • An ascent to La Laguna

    28 septembre 2024, Espagne ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Wow! A beautiful walk from Villafranca - following the river valley up to La Laguna. 200 metres more ascent tomorrow, but nothing like today! So glad to reach the albergue! Into Galicia tomorrow - very much like Wales so will feel ‘at home’.En savoir plus

  • On to Sarria… and then to Barbadelo.

    30 septembre 2024, Espagne ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

A special, very rustic albergue last night in La Balsa - good vegan food and a peaceful night’s sleep! Two visits to see some amazing artwork en route. Another ‘donativo’ breakfast stop left me feeling so blessed and refreshed! People are so kind. Reconnected with Naomi and Grzegorz. Reynaud was also there - he designed the ‘Camino Ninja’ App and Irena and I seem to bump into him most days. He’s off to Santiago by bus today - no doubt we will see him there on the 5th Oct!En savoir plus

  • Via Portomarin to Gonzar

    1 octobre 2024, Espagne ⋅ 🌧 20 °C

A rainy day, but an enjoyable walk to Gonzar. Just 4 more days of walking left now. Tomorrow to Ponte Campana, Thursday to Arzua and then a long walk to Lavacolla, giving us just 10km to walk into Santiago on Saturday 5th. It really feels hard to believe that I’ve been walking since 3rd Sept and that it’s nearly over. Lots of walkers, cyclists and the occasional runner, but today was special - two people roller skating the Camino!En savoir plus

  • Constant rain in Galicia

    2 octobre 2024, Espagne ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

I don’t remember much about today’s scenery, but there were some blessings along the way. Another donativo - we were welcomed into shelter by some Christians from Texas and San Francisco. Our Camino Amiga Bianca turned up at the same time and we were able to pray for her as her father died earlier this morning. Staying at the same albergue as Gabby from Vermont today - also with her in Molinaseca and Gonzar.En savoir plus

  • Ribadiso

    3 octobre 2024, Espagne ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Sitting outside the albergue in Ribadiso watching a stream of pilgrims walking past. Good to be in a dry, sunny environment after yesterday’s rain and a power cut that affected the water supply last night. No flushing loos! Met up again with Hee and Caroline (80 year old from Ontario). Also bumped into Stefan and Bianca in Melide. Starting to feel emotional nearing the end…En savoir plus

  • O Pedrouzo - one day to go!

    4 octobre 2024, Espagne ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

A couple of photos from yesterday - donkey and photo with Bianca, Stefan and Irena. Today was lovely - lots of pilgrims on the Way - queues at times! A meal out tonight with Caroline, Elinka, Her and Irena. Very early start tomorrow for the last 20km!En savoir plus

  • Santiago de Compostela

    5 octobre 2024, Espagne ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

We made it! I walked into Santiago with Irena and Caroline and was number 186 out of 2516 pilgrims who collected their Compostela. Heavy rain all the way from O Pedrouzo, which dampened celebrations a little, but we made up for it later with the pilgrim Mass and a meal out. It felt good to see some familiar faces at the Mass - Stefan, Timo and Sonia, the 3 Spaniards who were often at the same albergues, the four young Italian girls, Gail etc. etc. At least 800km walked plus explorations of the big cities - I feel stronger and look forward to my next adventure! I am so grateful 🙏 to have got here safely and for the multitude of Camino blessings along the way. I’m also very appreciative of my dear husband,, family and friends who have supported and encouraged me every step of the way! Thank you! 🤩En savoir plus
