• Day 8 Las Torres and the final hike

    December 31, 2017 in Chile ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

After a really good night sleep we have set of to check our bus for next day. Our original plan was to leave Torres the in the evening but as we started to be restless and couldn't wait for a real food, we wanted to check of there is any earlier option. Thankfully there was another bus at 1:30 p.m. we could swap for. After a coffee break and lunch we have finally at 2 p.m. decided to brave the last part of our journey and hike to the towers. The weather didn't really look that good but the idea of an early morning and hike from 7 a.m. made us to start the journey. It was pretty much uphill all the way in not the best weather we have experienced. I was rather tired and complained pretty much the entire trek. By the time we got to the Campamento Chileano we have been completely soaked by rain and the visibly was miserable. After another hour we have approached the final steep hill. The last 400 meters elevation was done on the last kilometre. I was at the end of my power and within the last 100 meters it started to snow. We were one of the last ones to hike that day as the trails shuts at 5 p.m. The view at the top was nice. We could see a bit of the towers and laguna looked freezing. We took few pictures and set of for the return journey. We pretty much run down the hill to be back in the camp by 8 p.m. as it was New Year's Eve and that meant midnight back home. Petr stopped for few beers and a box of wine and we had a drink to celebrate finishing of the circuit and the New Year.Read more
