• Day 6 Paine Grande - Campamento Italiano

    December 29, 2017 in Chile ⋅ 🌫 6 °C

After a very busy night of trying to save the tent from the wind, we have woken up to not so nicely looking weather. There was a weather forecast of rain and while cooking breakfast it kept on and off raining. We tried to time the best part of the morning to start the hike. About 10 minutes from the beginning the rain started to pour so we picked up the pace to get it done and over with. After while we have realized that the better option is to wait for a bit and keep walking with the sunshine that was behind us. At the Lago de Patos we have seen the two different colours. One part was with the sunshine and the second one with mordor. We have arrived to the camp slightly wet and very cold. We set up the tent in the forest in the camp that was very basic. We met few Czech people who were hiking the W. They told us that there is a viewpoint about 500 metres from the camp. We scratched the Valle France visit as it was snowing and with small visibility. We set to cook a dinner when a gentleman seating behind us got chatting with us in Czech. He is originally from Turnov but leaves in Australia with his wife. They were part of the group who was doing Torres del Paine on a much bigger budget than us. He gave us plenty of nuts, fruit and bars that they got at the campsites before as he would get so e more at the next one. It was like Xmas came late. They set of for the Paine Grande and we snuggled in the sleeping bed for a good night sleep. The wind in the trees was going crazy but near the ground was hardly any and we could peacefully sleep all night.Read more
