Lower Loop #1: West Thumb Basin

We tried to get up and going this morning, lower loop is approximately 110 mi to complete.

First stop was the Yellowstone Lodge. We didn't have a chance to go inside, but wanted to have a peek at it. Definitely a yellow building, could be interesting. Maybe next time?

Our first real stop of the day was the West Thumb Basin. Again, many hot, boiling springs and almost "wannabe" geysers. What makes this basin so interesting to me, is it is juxtaposed to Yellowstone Lake. Steaming hot pools, next to a huge cool, blue lake.

The colors in some of these pools were gorgeous. I just simply enjoy looking at these very interesting, abnormal thermal environments.Read more
