  • From Wasai to Kri

    March 27, 2021 in Indonesia ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

Back on Kri, back at Delvin Homestay but in a new bungalow. Danny has built 3 more over water bungalows which are really nice and spacious. The only downside is the long and dangerous path to the bathroom...Read more

  • Snorkeling

    March 27, 2021 in Indonesia ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

It rained pretty much all afternoon so at 5 pm I just decided to go snorkeling. So I swam all the way along the reef until Jenkoranu Homestay. There wasn't enought light for taking pictures, but what I saw was amazing: plenty of fish, a turtle, a shark, a lion fish and several giant puffer fish.Read more

  • Making the best of the rainy weather

    March 28, 2021 in Indonesia ⋅ 🌧 26 °C

After a turbulent night with so much rain and such a storm that my bungalow was shaking and I feared that the roof would fly off, I had breakfast and later hiked to the other side of Kri with my new aquaintances Martin and Rituel. We later reunited at their homestay where I did some snorkeling after the rain stopped. Unfortunately, my camera suddenly stopped working after I took that last photo... :-(Read more

  • Taking advantage of the low tide

    March 29, 2021 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Martin and Rituel came over because we wanted to go snorkeling together but there were thousands of stinging jellyfish in the water so we went for a walk along the island instead. I'd never been there before and it was quite nice. There's a few more homestays along the coast, some of which are really nice and well kept. Due to Corona, however, they were all pretty much abandonned. The last one seemed to be at least prepared to welcome visitors. It's a the Western peak of Kri, a beautiful spot with very nice views of Mansuar - the next island. After we get back I tried to organize a new camera from Jakarta but failed. I had lunch and started a new book.Read more

  • Hiking up to sunset point

    March 29, 2021 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

When I was on Kri in 2019 I did not make it up to sunset point so that hike was on the top of my list. Since it was much sunnier and there was a bit of sunset I decided to give it a try. I managed not to get lost and made it up to the spot. The view was spectacular and definately worth the effort.Read more

  • Last day on Pulau Kri

    March 30, 2021 in Indonesia ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

I spent the morning with Martin and Rituel who unfortunately left the island at mid time. We did a lot of snorkeling - no pictures though due to my broken camera. Then I continued reading "untamed" - awesome book btw - and relaxed in the hamoc.Read more

  • Should I hike or shouldn't I?

    March 30, 2021 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

It was my last afternoon on Kri and I couldn't really decide whether to relax or hike to the view point once more. I finally decided to hike somewhere else but couldn't find the path at some point and thus returned to my homestay. I guess I was simply supposed to continue reading ;-)Read more

  • Hiking to Lumba Lumba

    March 31, 2021 in Indonesia ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

On my last day on Kri I once again set out to hike through the jungle to the other side of the the island. I was going to snorkel there and try out Danny's camera which was supposed to fit in my housing. I met a lovely Indonesian girl who's currently living in Bali and we bounded immediatly, especially over her choice of literature ;-)Read more

  • Snorkeling in front of Lumba Lumba

    March 31, 2021 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Snorkeling was almost as nice as I remembered it although I couldn't help but notice the dead corrals that certainly weren't there 2 years ago.
The housing was fogged when I got out of the water, but I didn't realize at theat point that obviously the camera did not fit or at least not perfectly into the housing...Read more

  • Moving to Gam

    March 31, 2021 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Once back I packed the rest of my suitcase, enjoyed lunch and waited for the high tide so Danny could take me to my next destination - Papua Explorers Dive Resort on Gam. Quite a different standard than my homestay and only affordable due to a big Covid discount. Berto and Neil came along on the boat with me as well as Belan, Danny's wife.Read more

  • Diving around Kri and Mansuar

    April 1, 2021 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

On our first day, we went diving at Yenbuba and Ransior in the morning and at Kuburan in the afternoon. Unfortunately, water got into my camera housing and the noise of the alarm was really annoying. Furthermore, the camera fogged very quickly, so I did not manage to take many good photos. We did see some very cool fish and mammels: a carpet shark, a crocodile shark, a tiny little octopus (or squid???), turtles and so many more...Read more

  • Sandy Manta

    April 3, 2021 in Indonesia ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

My morning cappuccino was a good omen :-) We went to Sandy Manta, knelt down behind the "stone line" and were lucky to see at least 3 different mantas. On our way to the next dive spot we came across a sunken boat with a abandoned fisherman aboard who we took on board and took to the next village. Poor guy, he was on that boat for a whole day and night without food or water.Read more

  • The Passage

    April 3, 2021 in Indonesia ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

The Passage used to be a famous dive spot until salt water crocodiles began appearing. Unfortunately, we did not see any...
