• The Bridges Linking Buda & Pest

Buda and Pest are joined together by the bridges that cross the Danube. The main link - the Chain Bridge - has been here for centuries in one form or another. Renovations begin next Spring and will take 2 years to complete. I can't imagine what the traffic congestion will be like on the other 2 bridges during that time.
Liberty Bridge was built between 1894 and 1896. The Liberty Bridge is the shortest bridge in Budapest’s center. Initially built as part of the Millennium World Exhibition at the end of the 19th century, the bridge features a large gold crown symbolising the Hungarian hero Steven (István).
Elisabeth Bridge (Erzsébet híd) is the third newest bridge of Budapest. The bridge is located at the narrowest part of the Danube in this area. It is named after Elisabeth of Bavaria, a popular queen and empress of Austria-Hungary, who was assassinated in 1898. The original bridge was destroyed during the WW2 and a simplified version was built between 1961–1964.
