This Roman Catholic Church is seen as the Munich Dom (Cathedral). First started in the 12th century; it was consecrated in 1494. It's twin onion-dome towers mostly survived the bombings during WW2 because they were used as landmarks by the allied bombers. The roof fell in and was reduced to rubble. Restoration was completed in 2004. The plaque to Pope Benedict XVI is because he had earlier been the Archbishop of Munich. The exterior walls are inlaid with tombstones recovered during restoration. Almost all churches in Munich have these on their walls in remembrance of the graveyards that used to stand beside the churches.Meer informatie
