    The Po River is the longest in Italy, starting in these mountains and draining into the sea near Venice. It’s headwaters are joined by smaller rivers, like the Adda. The area is a fertile foodbowl for northern Italy. Grapevines layer the hillsides. The area seems prone to flooding as there is a wide flood plain and many homes and roads are raised.
