Face of the Glacier

At the face of the glacier, it is about the same height as a ten storey building. You hear the creaking and then a sound like a rifle shot, soon after a chunk of ice falls off the face. This is called calving and is the source of all the floating ice in the water. Fresh glacial ice looks turquoise in colour.
