Glory Square was dedicated in 1980, to honour Soviet soldiers who died during the battle of Sakhalin and the Kuriles in WW2. The centerpiece of the Square is a bronze sculpture of two sailors representing the fallen in the Kuril Islands battle and a soldier on a higher pedestal with gun held at his side and left arm upraised. The soldier represents the fallen in the battle of Sakhalin. Between these sculptures is the eternal flame. A brown tiled wall which extends behind the sculptures, has several plaques embedded, inscribed on which are the names of the fallen soldiers, in alphabetical order, from Sakhalin.Read more
