    Durnstein was first established in 1019. It was built at an elevation of 190m to fortify the town and protect the small walled town from floods.
    The statue of Blondel and Richard the Lionheart, sits along the river. Richard was imprisoned in Durnstein Castle from 1192-1193. His minstrel, Blondel, combed Europe in search of him and found a secret prisoner in the castle who responded to his songs. He had found Richard.Read more
