  • Casa Sánchez 2 - dinner

    October 7, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 6 °C

It turns out that Leadville is busy on a Friday night. So no tables at our first choice restaurant, so we opted for Mexican instead. Although we both had enchiladas which I'm pretty sure aren't traditional Mexican, but more Tex-Mex. But it was still really good. Oh and a free shot of tequila at the end!Read more

  • Camp #21 - Alta Lake

    October 11, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 5 °C

Another free camp ground. This one we had to take a 4 mile off road track to get too!
It got cold, around minus 5c at 7am. The off road track to get to/from the camp ground was very sketchy. You really needed a 4x4 with high clearance to get there (which of course we do) but it was a bit bum clenching at times. So big steep drops and large cambers.Read more

  • Camp #22 - Sun camp in Moab

    October 12, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Sun campground in Moab. This is a chain with 4 camp grounds around town. It had a pool but we didn't use it.
It was an expensive site at around $60 for the night.
Frustratingly we were woken up at 6am by the bin collection and it was on a main road so we could hear cars all night.

Great facilities, but not worth the money

  • Camp #23 - Upper drinks Moab

    October 13, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

After our biking adventure we headed to find a camp spot as it's first come first serve at most camp sites here. We (Laura) we smart for us to do this! As all night people have been turning up from both directions trying to find a camp spot and there are none left!

We got here, setup our tent and a couple of camp chairs to hold our spot and make it clear we are here. We paid the fee and then headed back into town.

This spot is along the Colorado River and was a nice spot for the evening. We're next to the main road within this park, but considering how loud last nights camp spot was, this will be much better and I'm sure the traffic will quieten down as the night goes on and people finish their hikes

Oh I also bought a new gas bottle today. This is a refillable one. We've been using small disposable ones. This one holds 11x the amount of gas and costs as much as 1 small bottle for 11x the gas. Plus we're less likely to run out so that's good!

After returning to camp, I cleaned the solar panels and popped up half the tent to get the last of the sun on them to charge up the batteries before sunset.

  • Stealing showers (kinda)

    October 13, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

After our mountain bike session this morning we both really wanted a shower. Unfortunately our new caml spot doesn't have any showers, so knowing the code for the shower blocks at the old camp site, we headed into town to use their showers and freshen up before settling down for the night at the new camp ground.
Basically I'm just using the shower I didn't use yesterday right?

Oh and we used their flushing toilets as well!

  • Laundry in Moab

    October 13, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Not only did we to back to the camp site for a shower, but we also used their laundry room (I mean, I did pay for the laundry, they just had the facilities, so no one loses here)

  • Testing a new gas bottle!

    October 13, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Before we left the UK, I ordered this custom gas bottle holder from a guy we met at the Overland show. But I haven't been able to buy a gas bottle up until now.
In this camping and outdoor shop, they had a couple of options. I tried two out. The one I wanted was the smaller 5lb bottle, but it was too small for our holder, so ended up with the larger 11lb bottle.
For reference we've been using these disposable/single use gas cylinders which only hold 1lb of gas.
We've only used a few so far, but now we can hopefully just refill this up when we need too, and it's much cheaper.
    11lb of gas was $10.50
Where as its around $8 for a 1lb gas cylinder.

  • Camp #24 - Needles Outpost Campground

    October 15, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Home for the night. On the outskirts of the national park. So Internet or phone service. Quiet!
Although I flew the drone which really wasn't quiet, so may have annoyed a few happy campers

  • Store - Gearheads

    October 16, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

There's a little outdoor gear store in Moab called Gearheads. This is where I got my 11lb propane cylinder from, but they also do free water refills which I thought was pretty neat.
The guys at the store were really helpful and let me open up some boxes and take stuff out of the store to try different gas bottles out until I find one I liked. Really helpful, super trusting and all round, just thankful for the store and the free water!Read more

  • Camp #25 - Gooseberry

    October 16, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Gooseberry camp ground. With 14 spots and a group camp site, we rocked up and are the only ones here! Well except the cows.
It got cold quickly though, so diésel heater setup around 7, a few laps around site to get some steps in for today and then into the lovely warm tent around 8ish to look at some photos taken on the camera on the ipad.
The cows quickly disappeared when Laura started cooking the burgers though.
Oh and Laura found some mice in the toilet late at night. But by the time I got there to help they had gone.
