    finalmente aqui. my first feeling was that of gratitude. I'm just thankful for the opportunity and thankful for the fact that I'm lucky enough to have a family that helped make my dream come true. ❤️ 🙏

    I gave myself 5 hours to reach the catedral, and I made it with one minute to spare. Unfortunately, this meant that I was too late for the 12pm pilgrim's mass. 😓 I think that even if I left at 630am instead of 7, I still wouldn't make it. The city was insanely crowded when I arrived and the catedral was already full way before I even got in line. ☹️    Read more

    Parador

    Disappointed and tired, I went ahead and checked in to the hotel, hoping my room would be ready early. It was.. and the first thing I did was soak in the tub. lol

    My mom's birthday gift to me, along with helping watch the kids while I'm gone, is a night at the amazing parador in compostela. 🥰

    The hostal dos reis catolicos is literally right beside the catedral. It's one of the oldest hotels in the world, dating back to the 16th century when it was first used as a hospital for peregrinos. I added all the photos I have for the parador, including the breakfast buffet where I indulged in four (!) tostads con tamate. 😄    Read more

    Tomb, Embrace, Mass, Botafumeiro

    Lit a candle right on the entrance to the tomb of St. James. This is for all the intentions I carried on this camino.

    I saw the tomb, said a quick prayer, and then followed the line for apparently a tradition of hugging the life-sized bejeweled St. James. I didn't know this! Felt weird, but also a very unique experience!

    At 630pm, a full hour before the start of the Pilgrim's mass, I went inside the basilica and found a seat all the way in the back! 🫨 Pilgrims are very nice during the camino, but most of them are not when saving seats for their party. 🤪 Anyways, the mass was pretty good and the botafumeiro was used at the end. It was indeed a sight to behold - and completes my camino.

    Cathedral Roof

    The tour of the roof was sold out yesterday, so I was told to come back the next day right when they open to see if they can take me in. It was raining like crazy in Santiago all night and in the morning but the tour went ahead. So lucky to be able to see all of this! Not a lot of people know you can go to the roof!

    I added a photo of the praza do obradoiro because it probably doesn't get any emptier than this during the day.    Read more
