    Arrival, walkabout and dinner

    August 16, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

I flew to HNL on Makani Kai, and this is their brand new terminal. It is quite a distance from the main terminal, but they were taking some of the other passengers on my flight there to catch a plane to the mainland, so I got a ride with them. I stayed at the Central YMCA opposite Ala Moana Shopping Center, but walked along Kapiolani St. instead and found my favorite brand at a coffee stand! The early evening sky was pretty and, on my walk back to the Y, I discovered a little Mexican food truck had set up in a parking lot not far from there--onolicious burrito!!Read more

Also near the Y, was a Biki rental area. Problem with these bikes--which were popular--is that there are no bike lanes on Honolulu streets so the people that rented them rode on the sidewalks. After a work lunch at a restaurant there, I explored the Ala Moana Shopping Center, which has a great view over the Waikiki Yacht Club and a very pretty koi pool. Then more walkabout, during which I saw this glorious tree fern in a garden beside where the Illy coffee cart sets up.Read more

  • Saturday evening at Ala Moana Beach Park

    August 18, 2018 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 28 °C

After a long day at the work event I was part of at the Ala Moana Hotel, I walked down to the beach park, where a photographer was taking wedding pictures. The pretty necklace cum bracelet is something I bought to jazz up my work outfit.

I really did not like either the Ala Moana Shopping Center or the Ala Moana Hotel, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!

  • Farewell to the Y and HNL

    August 20, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

The Central YMCA was supposed to have been renovated/rebuilt several years ago, but there was a problem with the project, so it's in a netherworld of not having any facilities, unlike the other Y's in Honolulu. This is the long-empty pool. However, I found my room comfortable and clean, and would stay there again any time.

My boss took me to the airport so that we could talk about work on the way, and then I caught my island hopper back to MKK.
