Found a cool / hip Mexican food joint to take in the Costa Rica v Paraguay game. The name of the place is Nachoria and, well, their specialty is nachos. There are tacos, quesadillas, and salads on the menu as well.

Great place to take in a game or 5.

  • Futbol is the language of the world

    June 4, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 77 °F

We met a great kid named Luis, originally from Brazil, working at Nachoria while going to school at Menlo College. He started talking to us about the Costa Rica v Paraguay game

He plays with his college team and his coach also coaches the Burlingame Dragons FC, a local PDL team.

Since the Dragons have a match tonight, he was invited to scrimmage with the ... Wait for it ... ARGENTINA NATIONAL TEAM!!!

He showed us photos of Leo Messi, Agüero, and Otamendi ... what an amazing experience!!

He also have us tickets to the match tonight. Such a great language to speak ... the language of football.

  • Brunch @ Calafia

    June 5, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 68 °F

We were lucky to be able to meet up with family while we are here! We had a lovely brunch with Ingrid, Tain, and Finnegan at a vegan friendly restaurant called Calafia in Palo Alto. The restaurant is in a shopping center called Town & Country and matches the T&C in Phoenix to a tee. Somehow weird and expected all at the same time.

The food was very tasty and to see multiple vegan options on the menu. We had a wonderful time sharing stories and getting caught up on the insanities of life in the shadow of silicon valley.

Following brunch we wandered around the shopping center where we were greeted by a gaggle of Teslas, Polaris Spyders, and a variety of other fancy cars.

  • Stanford visit

    June 5, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 72 °F

Many thanks to Tain for the Hoover Tower tour! The view from the tower is amazing and really shows off the expanse of the Stanford campus.

After trip up and down the tower we said goodbye to family and Chris and I continued to wander around the campus in search of the bookstore. For some reason my path-finding sense has been terrible this trip so Chris guided us the 200 feet in the right direction. 🤓

After the brief visit it was time to find a place to watch soccer ...

  • Jamaica v Venezuela @ Old Pro's

    June 5, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 77 °F

The hipster shopping area of Palo Alto is home to a giant sports bar called Old Pro's. This place had their act together TV-wise with labels under each one letting you know what was going to be shown where. Our early soccer game was a few hours before the "dub nation" would descend on the restaurant in support of the Golden State Warriors run at the NBA title.

The soccer game matched the level of pub grub, just kind of meh. The service was terrific, but we bolted out of the place once our soccer was over. We were escaping as the basketball fans began their takeover.

  • Uruguay v Mexico @ & Pub

    June 5, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 82 °F

The tiny dive bar called Rose & Crown pub did not seem to fit the vibe of Palo Alto. We started to watch the soccer game but bailed at halftime since one of the teams suffered a red card and it didn't seem like it was going to be worth sticking around the dingy pub.

The strangest part is that we literally at in the pub for over an hour and were never once asked if we wanted to order drinks or food. There was one hipster running the bar and that was about it. Crazy.

  • Mingalaba Burmese & Mandarin cuisine

    June 5, 2016 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 66 °F

The restaurant had a varied menu and many dishes that we hadn't been exposed to prior. We tried an 18-ingredient salad that featured a fermented tea leaf paste that was combined with many other ingredients to form a sensatory delight. The dish was salty, sour, sweet, crunchy, bitter, you name it, we tasted it. Surprisingly it all mixed well and was delicious.

I ordered the spicy veg Burmese curry which was a bit more "thick" than I prefer although I'm sure it was from the lentils that were included. Chris tried the basil chicken and it looked pretty similar to the Thai basil chicken dishes I've seen.

Both dishes were tasty and filling. Great find - and very popular with the locals.

Small strip mall cafe with a very ambitious menu. Here's the thing, if you can pull it off, why not. This places was great and very accomodating to my vegan needs.

"luck that takes the form of finding valuable or pleasant things that are not looked for"

Seredipity perfectly defines our stumbling on this place. An eclectic and dare I say hipster place that serves awesome beers and amazing vegan food.

The jackfruit tacos were outstanding and the housemade pickles were so tasty. The shining light was the Mayan chocolate pie which had a nice little nip to it. Oh and the price was 3.14. Ha. Ha. Ha.

SJC, first time through the passenger terminal side of things. Pretty small airport considering all of the crazy huge companies in the vicinity.

Cool art work near the security lines.
