    The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is an Orthodox cathedral built in the Neo-Byzantine style. It is the second largest church on the entire Balkan Peninsula, surpassed only by the magnificent Temple of Saint Sava in Belgrade (which I visited during my Balkan road trip).

    The cathedral is dedicated to the Prince of Russia and its soldiers who, during the war with the Ottoman Empire in 1878, allowed Bulgaria to become an autonomous state independent from the Turks.
