South Sea Island - The Last Island

After an absolutely incredible experience diving with bull sharks, I was leaving the Yasawa Island group and heading to South Sea Island. It's the smallest inhabited island in Fiji (or so I think) and part of the Mamanuca Island group.
Since it is a very small island, there was not a whole lot to do. I arrived late in the afternoon, just in time to catch a beautiful sunset. There were less than ten guests on the island and we all had dinner together and afterwards the resort organised a bonfire on the beach for us. It was a wholesome time sitting on bean bags on the beach, watching the fire and the stars on a crystal clear night, exchanging stories (mostly travel related) and listening to the ocean. A truly perfect evening.
The following day was a day to just relax, read, snorkel, eat and enjoy island life. And this is exactly what I did. South Sea Island is a popular day-trip destination for families and it has an open bar between 9am and 4pm. During these hours, the island did get very busy and as result, we stayed on the quieter side of the island, but of course could still hear all the families, etc.
Still, I enjoyed my time here and actually did not mind the day trippers too much - maybe I was still buzzing from the shark experience. I also went snorkeling again - of course - and even though I expected the reef to be unspectacular, it was surprisingly beautiful. Plus, I even managed to spot a white-tip shark for a few seconds.
After a few more hours of lounging on the beach, it was time to say goodbye to South Sea Island and my island hopping adventure. While I still have two more days in Fiji and will do two day trips, leaving South Sea Island felt like a chapter was closing.
I will do a proper recap of my time in Fiji, but all I can say is that when I arrived back at the port on the mainland, I was sad. Sad that the island hopping part was over since I had such an incredible time here. I will certainly look back at my time on Fiji with a big fat smile on my face and a soul full of beautiful and spectacular memories.Read more
