Burano is an island within the Venetian Lagoon approximately 7km to the north or the main island. It is known for the brightly coloured fishermen's houses and attracts many tourists because of it. Whilst not terribly far away, it is about a 90 minute journey and the ferry runs hourly. With this in mind I made the decision that an early start was needed so that I could get there before the majority or tourists did. Dee and Matt, decided that they'd come along for the ride too. The cruise out to Burano was a pleasant way to start the day, which was already shaping up to be another warm one. Our seats were on the top deck of the vaporetto giving us an excellent sight seeing position along the way.
It was about 09:30 when we got there and the island was peaceful, except for the unbelievable noise of the crickets or cicadas. I have never in my life heard them so so loud!
Initially we just meandered along the canals observing the brightly coloured houses and the curtains on the outside of the windows and doors. It wasn't however long before breakfast was needed and we happened upon the centre of Burano quite conveniently. The café we stopped at was delightful and I was able to enjoy my first Italian cappuccino, and it lived up to my expectations!
After, we continued our lazy walk around the island, redirecting ourselves when an path came to a stop or a canal untill we found a bridge that crossed from Burano to the island of Mazzorbo.
Mazzorbo has an agricultural history, which we were able to walk right through. It was everything I'd expected from Italy and was beautiful in its very rustic way.Okumaya devam et
