The bands began playing last night. Of note, Sarah Edmundson, who is apparently George Harrison's niece, performed an outstanding solo piano. The other hit of the night was a guy with a guitar named Ben Fowler. He didn't make the festival line up, but was doing a sound check on the main stage. He drew almost as many people as the programmed stage. The videos don't do his guitar, his voice, or his song proper justice, but that's all I have. Really great night.

Now, I'm off to grab some.lunch before the music begins in about 30 minutes. The first band's drummer is a Hasher!

I had a fantastic time at the festival. Now, Soak, Romney, and I are heading back to their house.

No debit card yet. Apparently the package was in the same container as Australia's largest ever methamphetamine bust.

You Can't Make This Up

I am completely speechless. On 7 May, my bank killed my debit card and mailed me a new one to Texas. Great, but I am in Australia. On 13 May, I received a new card but with the incorrect last name. I ordered another. I received it on 21 May. Again, wrong last name. I ordered a third one with the guarantee it would be correct. I received it on 10 June, and guess what. Yep. Wrong last name. I spoke to them a fourth time at 0200 this morning and was once again assured that the embossing would be correct. I cannot begin to comprehend the ineptitude it takes for this to happen.

Thank goodness I have great friends here who will continue to let me stay with them until this is sorted out.

Today I got a haircut and did some shopping. Yesterday I restarted the Game of Thrones books. Don't tell me about the TV series, please.

The Strand

We had a sweet little visitor last evening (video).

Soak had to work for a bit today, so he dropped me off at The Strand, basically the beachside walk. I started at the old Fort, which included a memorial to 5th Air Force during WWII.

Now, I'm waiting for Soak to finish work. Too cool.

Maximum and I are hanging out again, me reading and him sunning.

On a better note, yesterday I finally received my debit card with my correct surname. The fourth time is the charm, I suppose. And this morning a lady from the CEO offices called to follow up and apologize. That was nice of her, but I suspect it's too little too late. I'll be bank and auto insurance shopping when I get back to the US.

Still in Townsville

Even though I received my correct debit card, I'm still staying with Soak and Romney in Townsville for a while. Soak and his dirt bike group are taking a trip up north, and I've been invited to tag along. Cool.

Today I'm goofing on the computer. I bought the pictures from my white water rafting escapade on 22 May. Perhaps you can see why I fell out of the boat a couple of times, but this is one where I didn't!もっと詳しく

I'm spending this morning delving into the issues with Iran, seeing if any other political parties or independents have nominated any presidential candidates*, and, in general, being disgusted with the stupendous decline of the United States over the past two and a half years.

* That's right, people. There are far more than just two political parties in the US. But just like a monopolizing business (which is illegal), the Republicasses and Demoncrats have a stranglehold on our government at every level. Make sure you're registered to vote, then DO IT!

We're still heading north. Far North Queensland is absolutely stunning, mostly hardpacked dirt roads with short stretches of bitumin between. Some of the scrub and trees are flowering, throwing splashes of red, orange, and yellow into the dusty greenery. Gorgeous.

The boys are on the bikes today, and three of us are in two chase vehicles with the eskis, swag, feed, and petrol.

We saw a terrific musician last night at the Bramwell campground. Wow! Guitar, eukulele, recorder, voice...he was incredible. I bought his USB drive of 170 songs or something crazy and am looking forward to listening to it when we're back.
