• All things grey

After the perfect sailing day previously, I woke early to a very grey morning, but undeterred, I decided I needed a good walk and headed off north along the beach from our local beach bar. There was no one around apart from a young lady doing yoga on the beach, an older lady sitting in her beach chair knitting! , and a young dad with his young baby, obviously giving mum a sleep in. Even the dog walkers were nowhere to be seen so I trudged the two kilometres along the beach past a couple of lagoons, and finally reached the headland of the next little seaside town. The sand is very soft and also very coarse so I scored a bonus foot massage for my efforts - think 60 grit sandpaper scale and a hill climb as I dragged my feet out of the deep soft sand.

By the time I was back to civilisation, the local camping ground was 'just waking up', the young boys were trying their luck fishing in the lagoon, and there was a queue outside the little grocery store for fresh croissants. I joined the queue and 5mins later, was home for breakfast. Luckily I did not encounter the village cow, a seemingly friendly beast who we've met on more than one occasion now, including wandering along the road as we drove home from our sailing day.

The lack of WIFI has been a blessing - we've both had much less screen time and slept really well, but after 8 days we feel a need to get back to civilisation and touch base with family so we've got a refund on our last two nights and will head to Bonifacio tomorrow.

Time to savour the sea for one last day. The ladies water aerobics team are practising with their noodles this morning. No mean feat as there's been a very big swell for the past couple of days. There's also this very cute phenomenon of the umbrella poles. I get the feeling this little holiday village has many regulars, mostly Italian families with a few Germans thrown in and they've been coming here for years. So they claim their territory and the beach umbrellas remain like security guards. The photo tells the story.

We head up to the local laundromat on the main road and while the washings on, we wander down to the weekly local market. We are blown away by the size of it. Even the road is blocked of for car parking. It is one of the better markets with plenty of variety, but since we're heading off tomorrow, and don't collect souvenirs and 'stuff' we only come away with some nectarines and peaches.
