Wine and beautiful towns

Today was long and busy and I wish I had added these towns to my stay here rather than squashing then into a day trip. Leaning tower of Pisa, lunch in a vineyard in Chiant, San Gimignano and Sienna. I Loved both of these towns, and would love the time to have to wander all the streets and discover ask the hidden bits. To probably wooldnt be staying in the 1000 euro a night hotel! Ate work famous gelato in San Gimignano- apparently the best in the world- they won awards!!Leer más

On the road again!

Managing to balance my inner and outer peace this morning with the morning photo of Poibt Vecchio bridge.
Visited the Ufizzi gallery , the building itself is worth visiting let alone everything in it. Could have used a whole day there tho!
Have moved to Cinque Terre- what I've seen so far is stunning. Hard to get here but worth it. Will have trouble leaving my accommodation to go hiking tomorrow!Leer más

It has been another day of "I never thought I would get to do this". To hike along UNESCO trails in Cinque Terre in Italy, wander through tiny, steep villages, swim in the Mediterranean Ocean, eat lunch under the shade of olives trees while looking at the ocean. Just when I think it can't get better .....

Beautiful one day...

But of a cloudy, gloomy start this morning but Italy did not disjoint!Hiked from Corniglia to Vernazza.
When you arrive in Corniglia you have a 200 step climb to the town from the train station - or a bus- today I took the bus!
The town is actually lovely if you dont mind stairs everywhere with the ocean from unexpected view pints.Leer más

The actual hike

The hike was amazing- not quite as hair raising as yesterday but the scenery was amazing. There was a bar with a terrace half way through the hike- got to love 🇮🇹.
Also an option to go and buy some fried fish- I know when I'm hot and sweat the first thing I felt like doing was eating some fried fish 🤣😂Leer más

Very pretty town I hiked to, sorry so many lovely photos today!
At the restaurant as you walked into town the waiter was setting the tables with no shirt on - he was sweaty - don't eat there 🤣😂
Also hiking into the town there was a couple with their 3ish yo son called Noah. Noah was kicking off like no bodies business and NO ONE could move in either direction. All for including your children but hikes with sheer drops??? No photos of that- he was ruining the serenity 🤣😂Leer más

Staying in Little Bedwyn with Em (namesake not the daughter 😉). After a much delayed flight yesterday and a yummy roast dinner, today we visited Stonehenge. Another "I can't believe Im seeing this" moment.
It is amazing that this structure was built over 5000 years ago, that the people here could move these mammoth stones from Wales, carve them into square shapes and lift them onto the top of each other is unfathomable.Leer más

Wonderful day wandering through Oxford- beautiful old town with lovely buildings. Ride a double decker bus, had a drink at the varsity bar with an amazing view over oxford. No punting done tho, weather not the best.Leer más

Lovely time spent in the oldest botanical garden in the country- established in the 1650s
Saw giant lily pads, plants that will eat you. And wild flower borders.

Caught the train to London today. Had an action packed day and night- champagne at The Shard - tallest building in London, for a cool 40 million I could live there! The views were amazing.
Spent a couple of hours at the Tower of London, saw the Crown Jewels, and rounded off the day with a musical - Hamilton. Absolutely first class!!Leer más

London looked after us today after agetting drenched yesterday- blue skies for most of the day.
Went to Buckingham palace and saw the Changing of the Guards, wandered through Green Park and Wellington arch and caught the double decker bus to Notting Hill for the markets. Have never seen markets so big! Did not find Hugh Grant tho!
Finished the day in Chelsea for lunch at Ottolenghi's restaurant in this really cute restaurant area that just appeared as we walked round the corner of these back streets.Leer más

Hiking with Em

So yesterday we had a quietish day after London, pub lunch with Ems parents and Aunt and Uncle. Then Em took me on a hike home from the pub. Only took us nearly twice as long as it should have😂😂, there was a distinct lack of a path, and at one point we were surrounded by shoulder high stinging nettle and thistles. It was easier following scallop shells in the dark 🤔
So much fun and laughter. Such a beautiful walk. 💞💕Leer más

"Finale" to my trip

Today we left Switzerland for Finale Ligure on the coast of Northern Italy. Very early start with a stop at an amazing waterfall, bit too early and cold for swimming, plus there was danger signs all around. A fancy lunch on the way, we probably didn't look that fancy changing at the truck stop but by the time we got to the restaurant who knew 🤣😂.
Staying in an amazing house up on the hill.
Had time for a swim and dinner.
Am so lucky to have this time with my family 💞💕Leer más

Lazy beach day

Lovely slow day today, the villa is more beautiful the next morning. Hike with the girls ( they may not ever come out again with me!)

Farewelling Finale

Went on a lovely hike today behind our cottage. It moves through the forest on a narrow path with moss covered rocks and trees. There are random stone walls built along the path, with the remains of ruins built into the rock walls. I sat on a rock in the forrest in Italy and was grateful for my time here with Gav Fabienne, Kiara and Ella. Then I heard voices and thought it may be the pig hunters so decided to move in case they confused me as prey! Started my favourite playlist and headed towards home. Such a lovely time.Leer más

Heading Home

As I sit here in Zurich at the airport I reflect on all the amazing adventures I have had over the last 2 months.
The lessons I have learnt about myself, about others and about how to travel.
I am, to use a word I have used again and again, so grateful for the time I have gotten to spend with my beautiful niece's, Gav and Fabienne. My time with Em, which in all honesty probably broke me 😘
The people I met along the way and the most amazing scenery, buildings, art, performances that I have had the privilege to experience through Spain, France Switzerland, Italy and the UK.
And the lessons I have learnt about myself- I am strong, I am brave, I can do this life by myself and the most important of all- never get off your bus, train, plane to pee!!
