The start of my journey west. My first trip to the US begins on Sunday. Last bits and pieces are being sorted and nerves are kicking in. Another adventure, a brand new job, with new challenges and exciting journeys to be had.
A Whole New World you might say.

    Disneyworld

    February 23, 2015 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

So, I arrived in Florida yesterday to start my new adventure. Good flight and loads of room (advantage to going at the end of half term). I was rather nervous in all honesty but it flipped itself into excitement as we flew over a rather snowy New York.

Considering all the horror stories I'd heard about customs in the US I had a very easy and smooth stroll through. Arriving in Disneyworld I managed to loose both my scarves out of the sleeve of my jacket. Well done Lizi. Checked in and found my room.

Now Im not one for fried and fast food anyway but considering my recent dietary changes I have decided my best bet is to live off Salad without dressing. Its is a world of beige here. At this particular hotel at any rate. I managed to find carrotsticks, banana and a no fat yoghurt (closest thing I'll get to skimmed or lactose free). Everyone is very friendly though.

After an early night I woke up ready form first day of training which turnout to be a solo endeavour but fantastic. I got to help put together Minnie's costume and then put Woody's costume together on my own. I hope they were both pleased with my work.

I've had the most wonderful day. I learnt a lot about the costumes and got to go to places you definitely don't visit when here on holiday. Very much looking forward to tomorrow.

Only downside is that I have yet to get my staff pass so cant go wandering round Disneyworld. Hopefully Wednesday will bring that and some fun!!!

We shall see what tomorrow brings

    Magic Kingdom Disneyworld

    February 25, 2015 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

Had the most MAGICAL day today.

Animal Kingdom was my first stop. After wandering round and a little train ride I saw Finding Nemo the Musical. It definitely set me up for the day. Fantastic costumes and a sprinkling fairy dust.

Next stop - Disney Hollywood Studio's. This was defiantly more me. Music from 1940's flowing. Classic Hollywood feel and Beauty and the Beast Live!! My inner child was now very very excited.

The best was saved til last. Already buzzing I arrived at Magic Kingdom. Heading under the railway station, I walk on to Main Street USA and ahead of me appeared that magical moment. The sight of Cinderella's Castle. My inner Chidambaram as now beyond excited. Strolling down Main Street I headed to the station fora steam training to Fantasyland. A quick stop at Dumbo's circus tent before making my way into the land of the Disney Princess. I ended up in France, standing in the town square opposite Gaston's Tavern. After popping into the Beauty and the Beast shop I took a break in Gaston's Tavern with a hot choc and a cinnamon bun the size of my head. He really does use antlers in all of his decorating. Walking past the Beast's castle me and my child self made our way through the rest of fantasyland, stopping for a ride round the world on Its A Small World. Slightly offensive in some places ( Oz and NZ would not be impressed).

It was off to Space Mountain after that. Good fun but not scream inducing. It was then time for a coffee float and to watch the light parade before the big finale. Nighttime Spectacular. A wonderful light show followed by wonderful fireworks and illumination of the castle. The Disney Magic was well and truly flowing.

All warm and fuzzy headed towards my bus. A quick stop off at the theatre first though and a chance to meet my boss. The one and only Mickey Mouse!! He was lovely. So nice to be working for such a generous and kind mouse. :-)

Home and me and my child self were exhausted after a long but absolutely amazing day!!

  • Day 13

    Castaway Cay

    March 1, 2015 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

Well it has been a manic few days. After a very early start on Friday we arrived at Port Canaveral to board the Disney Dream. Stunning ship. Absolutely gorgeous. Even in my tired state I was really rather excited.

I have a sticker now attached to my badge that says 'Earning my Ears.' This lets people knowing new and that makes them pretty keen towels you out when you get lost (very easy to do!)

We were then thrown into a workload of classes, tours, introductions and other things. So much info it did get a tad overwhelming. We got our cabin allocations. I was very lucky and occupying a guest cabin at the moment until my actual one is available. Im making the most of it. Tis super comfy! :-)

I met the Costume Seniors and the other costume techs. I then went and watched 'The Golden Mickey's‘ before dinner with the Costume team.
Anyway, after a pretty long and tiring day I finally went to bed. So comfy!!

Saturday threw a whole load more info at us, training etc. I went to watch 'Villains Tonight' and again had dinner with the Costume girls before heading to my room and watching England loose again in the cricket.

That brings nicely to Sunday, today. A slightly calmer day. Mostly spent in one place. Training in the morning and meeting our lovely captain. We then all experienced lunch in Cabanas, the guest buffet restaurant. Sooooo good!! I was so full. We all sat on the balcony looking out over Castaway Cay. Can't wait to go there on Wednesday!! We were then filled in on the ins and outs of pay, crew entertain and the internet. I then went down former costume training and to watch the signature show of the Disney Dream 'Believe'. It made me well up a bit. Was lovely.

To bed now for me. Early start tomorrow again for immigration to get the visas for when we dock and want to get off at Port Canaveral.

    Nassau

    March 21, 2015 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

So,we are officially done with cross over. The new cast are in, our heroes, villains, princesses and the gang are rested up and have their dance moves down. The shows have gone pretty well so far. Lots of energy and great fun backstage. Definitely get a work out.

I've settled into ship life now. I'm installed in my cabin, have a great room mate and have finally been able to unpack. Im making some great friends too and really enjoying the sunshine. :-)

Bahamas day today, chilling in Nassau and as with all my travels thus far yo various places I have managed to ind a coffee shop with good coffee and yummy cupcakes!

Bit of a lot down today as ESPN weren't showing the England vs France match but the sun and steel drums have made up for that. I already have a 6 Nations catch up day planned form return home.

Off to Castaway Cay again tomorrow, spot of BBQ and beach time before helping Mickey and Pals say goodbye to our guests. Then its back to Port Canaveral again.

I know its repetitive but you cant complain really. I work in the Bahamas. On a fantastic ship with a awesome crew. Living the life! :-)
