    ​It’s a short and beautiful walk. It was formed when horizontal beds of soft rock eroded back to more resistant rock that had vertical faces. But as you stand in the mossy, deep green forest, and watch the water cascading gently over multiple levels, you don’t need to know its geology. Just breathe deep and enjoy its awesome beauty.Read more

    Tall Tree Walk

    We walked through the tall trees for about 15 from horseshoe falls but it saved having to walk back down the 200 stairs. The trees were to big to get good photos.

    It was such a beautiful view Baliey was not impressed he didn't like the height. The swinging bridges were a bit of fun espically with Liam jumping on them.

    Port Huon

    Port Huon was once a busy trading port and the destination for international apple boats that transported and exported the region’s famous apples to the world. The original port remains and now is a hive of activity used by salmon grower Huon Aquaculture’s boats which are not open to the public but make for a grand picture when docked.Read more

    Tasman Bridge

    The Tasman Bridge is a bridge that carries the Tasman Highway over the Derwent River in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Including approaches, the bridge has a total length of 1,396 metres and it provides the main traffic route from the Hobart city centre to the eastern shore.
    In 1975, a disaster occured which separated the city of Hobart and led to the unfortunate loss of lives. The bulk ore transport Lake Illawarra, bound for the Electrolytic Zinc Company with a cargo of 10,000 tonnes of zinc concentrate, struck the Tasman Bridge on Sunday, January 5, 1975, at 9:27 p.m. It caused two pylons and three sections of concrete decking to fall off the bridge, totalling 127 metres (417 feet), sinking the ship. When four automobiles drove over the collapsed sections before traffic was stopped, seven of the ship’s crewmen were murdered, and five motorists were killed.
    A now iconic news photo that’s well known by Tasmanians shows a 3,000km old Holden Monaro GTS perched balancing on the cliff, alongside an earlier FB Holden station wagon.
    The river’s depth at this point (35 metres (115 feet) is sufficient that the wreck of the Lake Illawarra lays on the bottom with a concrete slab on top of it, posing little danger to smaller vessels. Residents in Hobart’s eastern suburbs were cut off.    Read more

    Richmond is a cute little town just out of Hobart. Lovely sandstone buildings. The boys liked the lolly shop.

    The Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) is an art museum located within the Moorilla winery on the Berriedale peninsula in Hobart, Tasmania. It is the largest privately funded museum in the Southern Hemisphere. It houses ancient, modern and contemporary art from the David Walsh collection. Noted for its central themes of sex and death, the museum has been described by Walsh as a "subversive adult Disneyland".
    The boys were a bit sick of seeing willy's by the end of it.    Read more

    The Shot Tower at Taroona is a heritage listed historic building between Hobart and Kingston, Tasmania. It was the tallest building in Australia for four years (1870-1875), and the tallest structure in Tasmania until it was superseded by the Mount Wellington broadcast tower in 1960. The Taroona Shot Tower is believed to be the tallest circular sandstone tower in the world.Read more

    Tessellated Pavement

    This unusual geological formation gives the rocks the effect of having been rather neatly tiled by a giant. The pavement appears tessellated (tiled) because the rocks forming it were fractured by earth movements. The fractures are in three sets. One set runs almost north, another east north east, and the third discontinuous set north north west. It is the last two sets that produce the tiled appearance. This tessellated pavement is one of the largest in the world.Read more

    Dog Line Eaglehawk Neck

    Dogs had good hearing and could detect anything."
    The dogs were kept on chains and set up in a line across the neck with lights, known as the Dog Line.
    Dogs were also put in place on elevated stages in the water, to detect convicts attempting to wade across. At times there were as many as 18 dogs accross.Read more
