• The last day in NZ

    December 13, 2025 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

After Hobbiton the last day was like a good bye. In the morning we picked up a woman from Hawaii who was hitching to Auckland. We had a funny conversation before we dropped her of at another town before heading to a gorge with remnants of the gold mining era. In Waihi we stopped at a huge gold mining hole. About 100 tons of rock were crushed to get 2 tablespoons of gold and 20 tablespoons of silver. We continued up to the Coromandel Peninsula and went to Whangamata Beach, where we saw a Pohutukawa or christmas tree in full blossom. We didn't drive all around the peninsula skipping about 2 hours driving and followed a windy mountain road through the Coromandel Forest Park instead. We arrived with an empty fuel tank at our accomodation and by coincidence the rental company is only 100m away, closer than the next fuel station.Read more
