    Planned was to hike to a campsite on the first day, but then got picked up, to participate in a haka, a traditional maori dance. On the second day I hiked a part of the te ara hura trail around the island to find myself at the Man O'War Vineyards enjoying a glass of Syrah red wine and pommes with truffle mayo and parmesan.Read more

    Taking the bus to coopers beach, where I stay for two weeks at a host and help in the garden. A really nice religious couple with an astonishing home. The place is just amazing and I'd work even more for all the food and entertainment they give me. Going for hikes around the reserves nearby with amazing scenery.Read more

    Ahipara to Kaitaia

    One night each. First night with Maryann, the cousin of the couple I stayed in Kaimaumau and the second one in a hostel in Kaitaia. Maryanns daughter drove me back to Ahipara because they are living up the mountain, having a great view of 90miles beach. A good fellow took me to Kaitaia, teaching at the school there. Catching up on some people in Kaitaia as well as filling up my food supplies. Spontaneous fishing trip to Taipa Beach with some locals and an evening Spa.Read more

    Met an english girl in Kaitaia and we got a lift to Takahue. Would have been hiking on a highway with no sidewalk and gravel road... Walking in the forest up the hills on a muddy path. She might have decided to go back and hike an alternative route down to Broadwood. In the evening another swiss couple arrived though I thought I'd be alone.Read more

    Camping in the forest with 17 others on a small campsite. The next day in the morning I left camp at 6 am walking 5km in the river, having a short swim and then 300 stairs up the hill.
