  • Border crossing

    1–2 Sep 2024, Uganda ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

The first hurdle to overcome was crossing the border. I got detained by the immigration officers because they claimed I am a threat for the country. After calling my friend in Uganda, he was a journalist who was very kind. He talked to the immigration officer and made him sure that I won't be any threat as he guaranteed that. Then after several hours he will I finally made it to Uganda 🇺🇬. Although I was very stressed, because the immigration told me i can't make it back to Kenya 🇰🇪 since I had extention on my passport. So the next couple of weeks I was just thinking about how to go back.Baca lagi

  • Jinja

    1–4 Sep 2024, Uganda ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

After I made it to John's place, I rested for a bit and we had the night talking about my experience and Uganda life. He was really nice by giving me his bed and he slept on the couch.
The next day we went out exploring the city and I got a Sim card, we also tried some local food in a restaurant and he recommends me a Rolex place where I had a really delicious one. The day after, I planned to leave him and go to another hosts place, when I woke up, my left eye was swollen as I was bitten by something. It didn't hurt, but not nice. So I said goodbye to him and went to the city to buy some medicine. I spent the night near Nile river in a club where I had a breathtaking view over the river.Baca lagi

  • Kampala

    4–7 Sep 2024, Uganda ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

After I had quite sometime in Jinja, I made my journey to the capital city. It was quite a journey as Kampala was so conjested. It took almost 3 hours to reach there. I went to Karine house, a women living in the outskirts of Kampala, she welcomed me warmly and cooked some delicious local foods. The next day I discovered the city. I went to the market, cbd, hills, bus stops, and many more. It was a snooker match, the final between Judd and Mark, it was the greatest match I have ever witnessed. The first session was ordinary, both player tie. And I went to play some pool, the Uganda pool was different than Kenya pool. I played a couple of games. Then I went back to the host place. She had me some dinner, it was fish 🐠. Then the match continued and I was on the edge of my seat while watching it. It was a very close match. Mark would win a frame, followed by Judd. Until the decider. Judd had the break off shot and marked stepped in with the first shot. He made a flowless break of 62 until he missed a red to the left corner. He left Judd with a tough red to the left middle. Judd fearlessly played the shot knowing if he misses the it's match over. The red was in and Judd made the clearance of the year. That clearance was worth half a million.
I had such a great night that day.
Next day came Azure. A Chinese friend of mine. We catched up and bought some groceries. She cooked some Chinese foods including egg soup.

  • The longest and most inconvenience journ

    7–9 Sep 2024, Uganda ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

I started my journey from Kampala towards Fort, it took me a while to find my ride as I was escorted by Azure. I was placed in the front seat with another guy. Under the seat it was like hell, hot and boiling, I hardly felt my buttom. The journey was nine hours with one stop where I had a Rolex. I listened to some classical music and I had a couple of calls from friends and family. I was chatting with my host (Jude) who I hardly knew him prior to that visit. I arrived in fort and I tried to reach out to Jude he was offline and I couldn't get to him. After waiting 30 minutes or so, I called him again and a woman picked it up I told her is it his phone, then she said she will reach out to him and let him know that I'm already here. After waiting a little bit more, I smoked a cigarette and then Jude arrived near the city center. From the first moment I realized he's a very nice guy. He got me dinner (fish, my favorite food), and took me to his fellow friends place. I spent the night there with the Dr in house.
I woke up the next morning and made it to the city center to have breakfast. Then I went to Jude place to meet Fatima who was solo Turkish women traveling for the last couple of years. We got along well together. Spent the day hanging out and visiting the forest. Later that day we met Jude who he had some classes by then. We bought some groceries and made it back to home. We later with Jude visited his friends in another neighborhood. We were supposed to play some football but unfortunately they weren't ready for that. I had some dinner there and I learned for the first time how to play card game. It was relatively easy and I won a couple of games.
Midnight that night, i went to a club for the first time in my life. There were lots of mzungu there. The security didn't allow me to bring in my bag, thus I had to leave it at the entrance. I got to play some pool and I won several games that night.

  • Going to the real Africa life

    8–9 Sep 2024, Uganda ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

After coming back from the club, I went back to the place to spend the last night in Fort. I arrived after midnight and slept right away since I had to wake up before sunrise to catch the bus. After waking up early and meeting up with Jude and Fatima, we walked down to the bus. The journey began. I was sitting next to a women who wasn't feeling well and she would throw up frequently. I was so sleepy that I drifted off a couple of times. When the sun rose I was enjoying the view of Uganda through the window. Later on, I got a message from Zanyar who was asking me some money for a friend. I told him that I am not in the position of helping. When we arrived in the city, Jude was out of cash, he hoped off and got some from an agent of MTN. We later went to the garage to masaka. We dropped off our luggage and went to downtown. Fatima was out of cash as well, so she had to find a place where western union is available to get some cash which his brother from the states sent to her. Jude and I was waiting for a while since it took her long to get the cash. We were starving by the time she got the money and went to a place to eat breakfast. We ended up in a restaurant. Fatima asked for A pigeon and I ordered an omelet. Jude was buying some suits for his graduation while I was helping him to choose a nice one. We had a picture together. After breakfast we went to the bus station to book a ticket to Jude's hometown. After bargaining for a while, we got a good price and hoped on. At some point, we were stopped by some police and was asked to show us the passport. I showed him and he did not say anything. I was arranging a meeting point with Azure to meet up in the town. She was offline and we had no clue where she was. We went the meeting point where was a hotel and told the staff in case they got a Chinese women call us. We went to the downtown and bought lots of stuff for the village. We got two boda and went to the village which was a bit far. When we arrived, his family welcomed us warmly and we're so happy meeting us. We hugged and I did a video there. We gave them the gifts and they approached us.
We spent the night with the family and enjoyed the accompanying of them.

  • Living with the canmabilis

    9–16 Sep 2024, Uganda ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

Once i arrived in the village, I knew I would experience some authentic African life. Throughout the week, I saw a lot and I learnt a lot. Most of the experience were with Jude's family. His mother was a nice hearted woman who was so happy and exited having me in her place. She was taking care of several orphans at the time I was staying there and told me that ever since she lost her husband, she had been feeling lonely and thus decided to have some children to keep her busy in the house. She showed me true Ugandan culture and cuisine. I had local food there, like matoke, cassava, etc. I went to a local church in the village and I gave a speech as well. I saw how they practiced their religion. We explored the entire village and nearby places. From local houses to churchs and schools, we saw everything. One thing I don't forget is my visit to a school in the mountains. In fact it was two of them, the first one was just a small school which was run by an organization. It was for the small children like class one or two. The condition was not good at all. They were studying on the floor and they had nothing, even books and notebook were limited. I gave a small lecture in the second school where it was a bit far in the summit of the mountain. I did a lecture on motivation and future goals. The students seemed to be amazed by my speech, so did Jude. At some point, we went to a place where canmabilis were living. We saw them really close and my colleagues were afraid to death. I was feeling normal since I'm not sacred of anything as a Kurdish. So I remember that moment I greeted the canmabilis. They didn't look very normal. However we're pretending so. Most of my remarkable experiences where here in this village. Before my departure, with the help of a couple of friends of my dad, I did some charity by giving away fresh meat. I had the nicest feeling on earth when gave the vulnerable people a bag of meat and rescived their smiles.Baca lagi
