• Day 101

    Patagonia 🦩

    March 12 in Argentina ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

We were going to go for a hike on our last morning in Ushuaia, but it was drizzling so we went into town instead. We spent 30+ minutes trying to find parking. We cashed in some vouchers for hot chocolates and tried a few other Argentinian chocolates. We did a bit of window shopping. Then we headed to the airport. Security was a breeze (they didn’t care about my full water bottle) and the small airport even had a tiny lounge! We saw some folks from our boat trip on the flight.

We got in El Calafate and took a taxi to our hotel. Henry found a walk for us in a nature reserve so we walked through some streets to get to it. I saw three cats in the first hour here (one of which I pet). It was a tad late when we got to the reserve but the entry guy was the picture of nonchalance, sipping his mate. We walked around while Henry did some bird spotting. There was a beach section where we found a wandering dog. He was friendly (Henry named him Sebastian) and fetched rocks from the water that we threw. As we were turning to head back we spotted flamingos, even though we were told not to expect them.

For dinner we went into a nearby restaurant that turned out to be really good with very friendly staff. They even gave Martina her own gluten free bread and butter. For dessert we tried “panqueques”— crepes filled with dulce de leche.
