Calliope River Rest Area

We spent the night at a rest area worth mentioning. Free, tucked away from the highway, and surprisingly peaceful despite the traffic nearby. Waking up there felt like being in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by birdsong and the rustle of wildlife in the trees. A word of caution, though: this close to the coast, crocodiles aren’t far off, so keeping an eye out is part of the adventure.Read more
