  • Day 18/19: Villa Morra

    January 29, 2024 in Paraguay ⋅ ⛅ 99 °F

First thing about Paraguay you need to know is that it’s really fucking hot here. 100 degree days every day.

Thus, we spend a lot of time eating and drinking inside. Day 18 we arrived, made it to our hotel which is super awesome and unique, and then got food at D´Alepo Cocina. Walked around the Villa Morra neighborhood and then hit the store for water and food for our room.

We decided Day 19 needed to be a break day to prepare for more physical activities in Bolivia so we spent the day resting in bed, watching Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen.

  • Day 20: Downtown Asunción

    January 30, 2024 in Paraguay ⋅ 🌙 84 °F

Wonderful day making new friends. At breakfast, we met an Australian/American couple who retired and now traveling for 7 years (Kathy and Vic).

We spent the day perusing downtown Asunción, but it was so hot we needed to hit the pool. We ran into Vic again and agreed to sharing wine and having a lovely dinner in Villa Morra and drinking more local beer.

  • Day 21: Car Trouble in Paraguay

    January 31, 2024 in Paraguay ⋅ ☀️ 102 °F

We were doing really good on our budget in Paraguay until Mary decided to open her Uber drivers door into oncoming traffic on the way to the bus station for Brazil.

The drivers and police spoke zero English, but we Google translated that it was our fault and worked with the drivers to write the police report and go to repair shop to fix both cars which in total was $284 USD.

Dale, who was the one who hit the car door was amazing, understanding, and walked us through our first forced police bribe ($20).

Anyway, we stayed in Asunción one more night after the ordeal and enjoyed a nice meal at Bar Leo’s and watched an exciting fútbol game.

Here are pictures from the car accident and the hotel artwork since there is nothing of interest on this stressful day.

    Restaurant: Bar Leo

    Food:
    Empanadas
    Ravioles

The Car Repair Shop that belongs to Dales family 😬

  • Day 22: Bussing to Brazil

    February 1, 2024 in Brazil ⋅ ☀️ 95 °F

We woke up at 6am again and made sure not to cause anymore car accidents to make our bus to Brazil.

It was 7 hour bus ride and we got to enjoy the countryside and a little (little) elevation in Paraguay. Crossing the border was rough because you needed wifi to register and it didn’t work for Mary’s phone. However, another couple struggled and we all ended up using Kieran phone to register.

We ended the day at an awesome Brazilian Steakhouse and the a tap house for some much needed beer!

    Restaurant: Churrascaria Premium
    Tap house: Rock Falls

  • Day 23 Part 1: Foz do Iguaçu Falls

    February 2, 2024 in Brazil ⋅ 🌙 81 °F

Today was too amazing to only make one post.
We visited one of the Seven Wonders of the World:
    Foz do Iguaçu!

The waterfalls were breathtaking and the hiking trail was set up so that the end of the trip was cherry on top.

Finally, the National Park is home to wild animals, including the Quati which are really just Brazilian trash pandas. We were lucky to see so many up close!

  • Day 23 Part 2: Birb Park / Itaipu Dam

    February 2, 2024 in Paraguay ⋅ 🌙 82 °F

Next we visited the Parque das Aves which is a bird sanctuary for practically extinct birds in Brazil and some other colorful boys from the Atlantic Rain forest. They had one duck, a turtle, and many natural lizards running around.

Then we took a bus to the Itaipu Dam which produces the second most energy in the world, but is first in efficiency per flooding of the natural habitat. The dam is a shared diplomatic, business, and energy source for Brazil and Paraguay! It was really fucking cool.

Ended the night with some fabulous grilled chicken and wine in our hotel room.
