• Antarctica 9: Drake Shake

    March 12, 2023, South Atlantic Ocean ⋅ 🌬 4 °C

The night was wild with massive swell and bouncing. Despite that we slept quite well and were up in the dining room for breakfast. There were quite a lot of empty seats though who were probably feeling seasick from all the shaking. I also felt it but not as bad, so I just had a small and light breakfast. Some of the crew also didn't look very well today... So after breakfast I went back to bed for a nap, then there was a super interesting lecture on the IUCN Red List of endangered species. It was explained by Elizabeth, who is a marine biologist and has been working specifically in the analysis of the situation of the Northern Right Whale which is on the brink of extinction. She explained the process and issues with the list of endangered species.

After the next little nap and lunch we listened to another crew members story, how he had made its way to the Antarctica. Then we watched a documentary and the recap. After dinner we participated with a fun little group at the Antarctica pub quiz and achieved a very good 2nd place.
