  • Grootbereg Lodge

    26 sierpnia 2019, Namibia

It was a 5:30 am start the next day to go rhino tracking which ended up being very long day but worth every minute of it with the amazing scenery and finding a rhino only after a couple of hours walking.

Our photos include scenery on our drive; trackers and guide looking for rhino tracks; found at last - a 16 year old girl; ranger's camp and station; view of our lodge from down the valley.

  • Etosha National Park

    27 sierpnia 2019, Namibia

We spent two days driving to various waterholes within the park. As you will see from our photos (yes, too many) some waterholes were very busy. You could arrive and there would be nothing and within 10 minutes it was crowded - there certainly is a “pecking order” when it comes to taking turn. Czytaj więcej

  • Nhoma Safari Camp

    31 sierpnia 2019, Namibia

The camp is in the north eastern corner of Namibia near the Botswana border. It is on state-owned land within the traditional area of the Ju/’hoan San or Bushmen. The camp is adjacent to the Ju/’hoan village and was built by Arno and Estelle with the help of the community. Without tourism, the community would have left their ancestral land and moved to settled areas. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and our two hunting walks with the bushmen.

Photos include Denise looking at handicrafts on display for visitors; pounding grain for a meal; village houses that last four years and then have to be rebuilt; wardrobe is a fork in the tree for blankets, etc; making beads and bracelets out of ostrich shell; drilling holes in the shell pieces; village life and playing a game similar to paper and scissors.

  • Nhoma Safari Camp

    1 września 2019, Namibia

The first day tracking on a very cold morning for the bushmen. They needed to light a fire to warm up. We were then off on the hunt but no tracks found so they decided to set snares for some unwary birds. They headed back with empty hands and in the afternoon showed us how they make their arrows. • Nhoma Safari Camp

    2 września 2019, Namibia

Next morning out tracking again, Denise compared her footprint to a big elephant.

For over an hour, we followed a porcupine track and found it's burrow. The bushmen crawled in and after over an hour of digging underground found where the porcupine was sleeping. They began to dig over the sleeping chamber expecting to find them - hornbill watched on. However, the porcupine was deeper than expected and they decided to leave it until another time as it was getting late. Our long walk back to the vehicle in the midday desert sun was hard work. There were beautiful red wildflowers on the road back to camp.

In the evening we went down to the waterhole for sundowners to wait and see what came in.

  • Okonjima Plains Camp

    3 września 2019, Namibia

Okonjima Nature Reserve is home to The AfriCat Foundation. During our game drives we saw cheetahs and leopards. Many of the leopards are radio-collared for their protection but they roam freely and hunt within the 200 square kilometer nature reserve.

Remaining photos include returning to the safety of the camp's enclosure; wildlife around the camp and our last sunset in the bush from our room.
