Santa Elena Preserve

We spent the morning learning about cloud forest ecosystems in Santa Elena Preserve. This area is protected thanks to donations from outside of Costa Rica. You see us in our ponchos because of the traditional horizontal rain that keeps everything moist. And notice the moss that covers the plants which grabs and retains moisture. This area is secondary forest, so it was reforested after being cleared for farming.Read more
