If at First You Don't Succeed ...

      April 6, 2023 in Mexico ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

I think we finally perfected the Mexico to USA border crossing. It took us three attempts.

Here's the problematic. In order to take our motorcycle into Mexico, we had to temporarily import it into the country, which meant leaving a hefty deposit of some $450, to be reimbursed when we left Mexico.

Here's the trick. In this case, leaving Mexico doesn't mean getting into the line to cross the border. The first thing you need to do is stay on the Mexican side of the border and find the Mexican customs office. It's usually a small building right on the Mexican border.

Once you've navigated your way to the customs building, go in and finish the paperwork. Only once you have your done that, can you get into the vehicular line to cross the border.

Ibid: If you are like us, the confusion and hectic atmosphere at the border might want you to quit after the second attempt and just leave the deposit in Mexico. However, that would have made it difficult if you ever want to cross the border with the same bike again.
