We're still getting our sea legs, so decided to take a tour of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. I didn't expect it to be so huge. Home to around 5 million people, it takes about two hours to travel east to west and two hours north to south .... and that's on a well-flowing highway with 7 or 8 lanes going in one direction!

We drove up to Carefree and Bartlett Reservoir and then down to Maricopa, AZ to meet new friends, David and Susan Hill. We look forward to riding with them when we come back in June. 💕Read more

We rode up to Canyon Lake, planning to cross over off-roads to Roosevelt Dam. Sadly, the roads were flooded so we had to turn back. In any case it was a beautiful drive. We will take another shot at it tomorrow from a different side.Read more

I loved this grocery store. For me, it's how every grocery store should be. It's large, yet homey, catering to the broad spectrum of its local customers.

From the outside it doesn't look like anything special. Just another convenience store. But once you open the door, you enter Alladin's cave.Read more

Copper Mountain Motel

We rolled into Superior, Arizona around 6:00 p.m., wondering whether we should find a campsite or take a room. Given that the weather forecast was rain ... or snow ..., we checked into the Copper Mountain Motel.

I love these old 1950s hotels. Their walls are covered in 70 years of coats of paint, one layered after another, making the walls thick with it. They tell a story of travelers across time. In this the year of the Lord 2023, it was the smell of a mother's Indian food drifting in from the back room when her vivacious American daughter and hotel manager came out to check us in.Read more

Loved the feel of that, but Christmas, Arizona turned out to be an uninhabited mining town from 1902, so we moved on to Globe.

This was a fun find. The Pinal County Airpark outside Tucson is an airplane junkyard and is the place to go if your 747 needs a difficult-to-find part.
