    Why on Earth...?

    January 28, 2023 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ -1 °C

For Xmas I bought my parents tickets for the Musical Der Kleine Prinz, as I knew the book was one of my mums favourites. However, I didn't think about my dad. He didn't fancy a Musical too much and so he said, he wouldn't join. My Mum then invited me to go with her but when the date approached, she was feeling ill. So now I had to take someone with me and decided for my best friend Sina. We haven't have done something like this in what feels like forever. She was happy to go with me, so we bought ourselves a Niedersachsen-Ticket and took the train to Hanover. The 1,5hour ride gave us enough time to have a catch up chat.
We arrived on time and the Musical started. After about 5min, I knew that the next 2 hours would be horrible. An hour later, we got a break, looked at each other and were happy to think the same about it. What a shit show. We honestly thought about leaving early, but having hope for it getting better, we decided to stay. Well, our hope died anyway. After yet again 40min of horror, we finally managed to get through this shit and left as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, we missed an early train mere seconds, so we decided to gossip over the Musical over some midnight snacking at the Backfactory. We sat down, eating our cheese-bagels and started to tear the Musical apart.
What was good about it: They used two screens to get some depth into the scenario which I found quite innovative. The choreography of the dancing parts was very well done and it was nice looking at the dancing. The voices of the singers/actors were good.
What was bad: Even though I enjoyed the choreographies, the dancing didn't do anything for the story. It was just not necessary and telling the story any further at all. Generally speaking, the whole story was extremely vague and stayed on the surface. There was no meaning behind a lot of the songs (which sounded all the same, with their repetitive lyrics and same melody again and again) nor in the dances. The unimportant parts were dragged out by unnecessary songs or performances, whereas the important parts were left with only one little piece of the time. For me, not one feeling occurred during the musical but hatred towards the people that actually thought to produce this shit would be a good idea. There was not one dialogue consisting of more than ten lines but rather a constant two-liner and then directly jumping back into yet another draining song. There were so many plot holes that didn't need to be there. There would have been enough time to tell the story, but they decided to go with 5min long blend-overs on the two screens or completely weird dancing sessions.
Honestly, this was shit and I understand that the musical doesn't get to stay at one place but is touring around the cities. After one night of the terrible show they have to flee from the people who want their money back...
However, Sina and I took the next train and tried to get over the feeling of complete waste of our time and money.
